Re: Machine Gun Shooting Distance

This here be full-on thread necromancy, folks.

The answer is that the client is responsible for ending shots, so that sort of cheat is trivial to do.

Why change Bloodbath

I looked at the Bloodbath 2 map - I don't like it. Extending the base platform greatly reduces combat dynamic by making it effectively impossible to shoot from one side to the other. Changing the end walls so that you can't sit on them makes it much harder to defend the base from attackers on the ra...

BZ admin and cops spots are usually given based on trust more than knowledge - it doesn't take much knowledge at all to watch over a server and get rid of cheaters.

A slightly off-topic note, but in order to make a fair, finite game, you have to take out random factors.

Specific flag and player spawn points are critical, since a CTF game game be completely knocked off balance by unlucky spawns.

I suspect that, if you were to put in the effort to research it, you'd find that a single model of support chip for wireless routers would be at fault; probably a network controller chip, not a router CPU/flash ROM. In other words, all the routers that have this flaw probably use the same flawed chip.

Yes, you're right. There have been some kids around here who have really earned some serious respect. It takes a lot of work, though. The main thing is to behave in a mature manner (if everyone can tell you're a kid by how you talk and act, you're missing it). Good luck, and I hope you stick around ...

My router is an SMC - it's got some age on it, so I can easily see it being a defect, bug, or even outright breakage.

I just started having that problem day before yesterday, but it's consistent now. I can only observe for about five minutes before other players randomly go in and our of NR (note that I never fully disconnect - I still get a very few player updates)

If you play Capture the Flag games, the point is more visible. You want your team to have more points than their team. If playing seems random and pointless to you, try some of the "elitist" games, like GamesUnited (GU) or Hepcat. Those offer a *much* greater challenge than, say, The Passi...

On popular servers, the admins are almost always there to help. That's what makes them popular :)

I'm an admin, and I'm an exception. I kill people just to hear them scream.

Just kidding.

Pay-to-play would have to be very, very good to be worth money, and anyone attempting to start such a service would probably get treated really badly by everyone who didn't feel like paying. 2mb-3mb isn't enough to host more than one very active game. Mofo was able to saturate a 10 mbit connection (...

CBG: PUNISH? Put an angled mesh on top of the signs. Not all of your players read the forums.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want players putting it there? It's nowhere near impossible to retrieve (I got wiped out defending a flag on the sign, and the flag was taken).

Not quite.

Standard BZFlag server configuration is that one MG bullet has exactly 1/5 the range of a normal bullet, all else being equal.

If you want to see what MG is like with a long range, visit the PieInTheSky server at bettagirl. Good server.

Well, you'd be amazed how powerful T is. I get as many kill runs on that as with BU. I don't like L very much, because no matter how good you are, the right flag can take you right out. With T or V, nothing but your own skill determines how long you live. BU is nice, but I like the warm fuzzy I get ...

I can't fix that. If it's enough of an advantage that I shouldn't play that way, well, then I can't play BZ on my only machine. Somebody give me an opine.
