The server that the list server and forums run on is mine. It's been on this server for a little while now. One of my main servers died and I can't get replacement parts until at least Wednesday, so I have to use the bzflag server hardware to get my customer stuff back online. I am working on gettin...

You might change...

-world "c:\Documents and Settings\Matthew\Desktop\BZFlag1.10.8\data\CamelotCTF.map."

to

-world "c:\Documents and Settings\Matthew\Desktop\BZFlag1.10.8\data\CamelotCTF.map"

What errors are you getting?

I am enjoying a lot of the new stuff, Trepan. I have to be careful on some of the physics stuff, as it started to give me motion sickness! I wish I were kidding. :)

Blender sounds cool. Maybe I'll play with it a bit. I had a hard time with bzedit at first until I got the hang of it.

Any idea how long it'd take to come up with something usable?

The screenshots look cool. How easy is it to use and are the things like grouping completely out of the question? I think the grouping this is one of the things that people are the most frustrated with.

Re: Buying hosting service

Panzer, If you were to buy a new server that would do the job, you'd be looking at around 500-600 dollars if you wanted to stick it in a datacenter. (1 Rack unit, 1.7 ghz+, 512mb ram, 40-80gb hd) To rack it and pay for enough bandwidth to provide a 10 shot server, and maybe another 2 or 3 shot serve...

ducati down for a few days.

Seems the server ducati is on is without power for a few days. Pimpinella was nice enough to supply a ducati style server for the time being at bzflag.pimpi.org:5156.

It's been a subject of conversation on the secretplace/dragon.org admin mailing list lately. We just find it strange that you have a nearly 50-0 score, and an admin goes into observer, and seconds later you get killed. With a general kill ratio of 40:1 on a server that is almost pure carnage, and yo...

found the "problem" - on this standby server I am using (usual server's cpu fan died) I had an firewall add-on script running which somehow determined that dragon.org's ip was used in some sort of "attack" against our home network. Not too sure if that even happened - am not acc...

In the profile section, you can set what time zone you want to display on the system. I have mine set to GMT right now.

Try using the address of bzbb.bzflag.org as the default address, rather than the bakadigital one. It might be a cookie thing.

We are still working out a few bugs, so let us know if you notice anything. You will probably have to reenter your login and password again, since the move.

bandwidth, etc.

I am running secretplace.us. You can see the number of people/amount of bandwidth used at my mrtg page at mrtg.tiphareth.net. 1.2 mbps is about the peak usage. The box is on 100mpbs to the backbone, so it's wide open, so you should see an accurate usage.

Secretplace has been back up for a week or so, now. I am running newer code, etc., and am running in a "sandbox", so I'm not too terribly concerned.

Well, the newest news is that there is an exploit for bzfs to get a shell on a unix box. We might be down a little longer than originally anticipated until someone can patch this hole. This is second person info from someone who actually witnessed the exploit happen.

The DOS seems to be from a connected client and not necessarily a flood of connections. There was some talk about it on the #bzflag channel on opennet, but no one had much detail. The DOS seems to cause a number of things. Some people can't be shot, a lot go NR, and it'll even cause the server to co...

bzflag.secretplace.us down temporarily.

I killed off the bzfs process, because there were so many issues with it. The server just changed IP numbers yesterday, and there seems to be some sort of DOS attack against servers, and secretplace has fallen victim a few times in the last few days. I have to go and redo some routing on the server ...

Compiling on RedHat 8

I've downloaded and installed GTK+ 2.0.9, and installed gtkglarea from the RPM, and do a ./configure --with-gtkgl-prefix=/usr/include/gtkgl and it still can't find gtkglarea. The gtkglarea.h is in /usr/include/gtkgl. I have also tried just using /usr/include, in case it is smart enough to look in th...

Servers: bzflag.secretplace.us and dragon.org

These two servers reside on seperate machines at my colocation space in Tempe, AZ. The connectivity of each machine is 100mb, so they generally are quite speedy. bzflag.secretplace.us is normally 10 shots FFA. We use the badword list option and are pretty intolerant of bad or questionably bad langua...
