Image submitter

Is there somewhere to send info about the BZFlag image submitter? I got someone else's images and notifications and I just wanted to make sure they get their stuff.

I firmly believe that mapping tutorials is one subject where duplication is good. In my years of looking up tutorials and "introduction to" I have found many instances where one tutorial will make much more sense than the rest, not because it a better tutorial, but because it spoke more to...

Thanks for the info. In that case I plan encapsulate all objects in separate .bzw files along with their materials and then "include" the objects in my main map and instantiate them with "group." Repeated materials (same name, etc) will be ignored, so including both of my tables ...

I got decent scores on Mystic Valley when it was very busy by just getting on the middle level and circling the map in one direction continuously. If you come up behind someone, shoot 'em (V is your friend here). I was getting killed a lot, but I usually took out 2 or 3 before I did. I believe I was...

Wooden Office Tables

Here are a few tables that I am making for my Cubicle Wars map. The wood texture is already hosted at images.bzflag.org (Thanks Alex135!)

These use boxes with textures instead of meshboxes, so the server must be 2.0.10

Uninstantiated groups & unused materials

I am in the middle of re-organizing my objects into separate files to "include" in my main map file (and upload to the prefab forum). I have several questions: 1. If I define a group but never instantiate it with the "group" directive, will it affect game play (take up memory on ...

No prob.

The UDL editor is really easy to use, so feel free to update keywords, fold+ and fold- words etc. and I can keep a copy on my website. Email updates to "Mad City Rogue at gmail dot com" (no spaces).

Language File

I don't know if anyone else uses Notepad++, but here is the beginnings of a user defined language file that will help with .bzw syntax highlighting and folding. It helps make things easier to see when you are editing by hand. Just drop it in your application data/notepad++/ folder

Back in Development - Cubicle Wars

I finally picked up the gauntlet and resumed working on "Cubicle wars": http://robotguy.net/tn_cubeScreenie.png New features include conference rooms, air ducting and a water cooler. I am still tweaking the details but the map is definitely playable and hosted, for the moment, at fenris.bo...

(Whoops, sorry for the thread necromancy, just noted the last post date  ) I mostly play on an internal server at work during lunch (we are up to 14 players now!) , so I wouldn't try this out in the wild, but I see the TH flag in HTR as kind of a wildcard flag. Something like "take your p...

...We must be as stealthy as rats in the wainscoting of their society. It was easier in the old days, of course, and society had more rats when the rules were looser, just as old wooden buildings have more rats than concrete buildings. But there are rats in the building now as well. Now that society...

Cubicle Wars!

I have just recently started mapmaking. About 8 of us from my work play every day during lunch, and I thought it would be cool to make a map that looks like the cubicles where we play. I made a quickie map in BZEdit and found it surprisingly playable. I then added texturing in Notepad++ and finally ...

Actually this: Two pyramids, one on top of the other, upside down, can be used to rico shots up onto a higher level too. is exactly the type of thing I was looking for. I never would have thought to do that. Just the kind of little known trick that makes it fun to play on different maps. Good info f...

General strategic/tactical guidelines for mapmaking?

I have done a quick search and haven't found any posts relating to general guidelines for mapmaking relating to playing stratgies. Something like: 1. Placing a tall tower near an open area will allow GM to defend the area 2. Lack of large open expanses will limit the effectiveness of Laser I realize...

Robots "sort of" on the server

I was playing on Pythonian last night (fun stuff) and there were 3 bots on each team (red & green) that were fun as cannon fodder. I would like to do something like this on my server. Now, I know there are no server side bots, but does anyone have a workaround for running bots from a headless, g...
