Re: Options to make BZFlag popular
Dammit, if minesweeper is still on PCs, BZFlag should still exist!

Re: What was attractive about this game?
I'm way late to replying here but, as an old timer... A lot of the bells and whistle effects, as they are used in some world designs, are just eye candy. But some get used to make really creative worlds. A lot of that falls on the map creators. But I think options are good. That leads to the next is...

Re: Messaging: distribution lists?
I think the BB works good with the auto email feature (overall). My primary reason for being admin is to stop the cheaters and blatant griefers that prey on servers when admins aren't around and drive off their populations. I can log on at odd hours and random times and help do this. My personal iss...

Re: Small Help With a Large New Map Anyone?
Haha. I can see you are developers in training. What the wiki doesn't cover is real life task saturation. As in I am creating a community website with SMS interaction, flash and HTML 5 variants and hundreds of pages...in addition to home schooling a child and helping another find furniture for his f...

Small Help With a Large New Map Anyone?
I have always loved making maps but am usually to swamped to get out the "dream" maps I'd like to make. Turns out I have just about finished a +1250 object 2-team, CTF map and would like a little assist for the "special effects". This would be things like world weapons, physics q...

Re: BzFlag is dying
I have noticed a "look down your nose" attitude from a few of the league committed players--something I had never seen before. There are also a few players who are obsessed with their kill ratios and are extremely insulting or rude when someone kills them "too much". Others camp ...

Re: BZWTestLauncher Beta 1
Both are in the BZFlag SVN code somewhere, probably under the 2.99.x archive tag/branch. BZWTestLauncher was renamed to something else as well.. possible BZFSTestLauncher. I forget. ;) Lol, you're a font of almost non-general information there. Still--my post count has increased taking me one step ...

Re: Maps not saving in 2.4
Well that could be it. I have '"show hidden folders" enabled and did the windows search but I'll go lookie in person. Thanks. I know that has to be documented but when I haven't read it then it then doesn't count. Update: Well sure enough you managed to sneak on my comp and put them there ...

Well that's what the forums are for...so people who have read it can tell me what I didn't read without me having to read it. It's a good system.

I've been using this for awhile as i had nothing but issues with the conf files and my isp trying to run BZ solo. The one issue I am having is it never seems to produce working teleports. Am i missing something?

Re: BzFlag is dying
So here's the list for new players of flags you shouldn't use: -Laser -Stealth -Shockwave -Guided Missile If you happen to get one of these flags ,shoot with it--on the ground only--no more than three times then drop it. These flags are easily abused and you must always avoid appearing to be abusing...

Prevent Player Disabling of Effects
Is it possible to have a line in the map (as opposed to a server script) to prevent players from disabling effects such as fog? I swear I saw a reference to this somewhere but I can't find it.

Maps not saving in 2.4
In 2.4 I have tried saving maps by command line and through the gui as both BZW and OBJ and while the display text indicates the world is saved, they are not to be found anywhere on my hard drive. Reverting back to the games previous versions allows me to save in both manners with no issues. Is it j...

Re: BzFlag is dying
What I would do is put a "COMPLETE IDIOTS STARTER GUIDE TO BZFLAG" In the start menu....like they can't start the game without reading the complete boiled down basics...I would imagine it would save a few problems That's what i did when I first started and it helped tremendously. At that ...

Re: BzFlag is dying
This is where quality server maps with balanced options need to be in place. Specifying shot limits, placing flags and altering ranges and the like based on the map conditions are as important as "eliminating" things that can be abused. Most servers just throw up a map taken from the archi...

Re: BzFlag is dying
I noticed the new version did leave people split between two worlds--the "would you like to update now?" option at log on should help. My first "contribution" when I began playing was to make a website with playing tips and help--at that time there really weren't any. I had tons ...

The site allows you to vote their reviews up or down and there is a contact email there as well. Here's the email I sent them. Don't mess with BZ! Your review here http://www.download-free-games.com/review/bz-flag/ is extremely inaccurate and not helpful to any gaming community. You either need to u...

Re: Gerbil Needs Programming Type Help!
Was a shot in the dark. Now, instead, I will have to turn off my lights and go shoot someone in a tank. No worries. I knew two people in days of old who might have been able to do it but they have passed us by and departed to the great Stalingrad of real life. Darn that real life! Consider the topic...

Re: Gerbil Needs Programming Type Help!
I was trying to be low key (and not cross promote). Sins of a Solar Empire by Ironclad Games has a free utility called "Galaxy Forge" which is a single .exe and .dll file and a few image files. It displays a 2d layout where layered graphics can be moved, placed and linked and then saved as...

Now we need, "I've been to the Phantom Zone" by Kenny Loggins and, "Hold Me Closer Tiny Tanker" by Elton John. Maybe Berlin's, "Take My Flag Away" too.

Gerbil Needs Programming Type Help!
I'm getting consent to modify a file in a utility made for an unrelated game to BZFlag--but rodent brain not know how. It's a single exe for a map maker made with some mystical Microsoft technomage spells. All I'm looking to do is change the black background in the gui to an image file. If successfu...
