Server Maintenance

My provider will be starting some maintenance on the host that runs the various BZFlag services (including the server list, authentication, and the forums) at 2018-01-16 5:00:00 AM UTC. They have scheduled a two-hour window, but expect it to take far less than that.

Re: Brightness doesn't work in 2.4.8 on Antergos Linux

Thanks. That's a good find. Well done hunting that down. I don't, at the moment, have a Linux system with an nVidia card. I'll have to set one up soon to see if I can figure out why that's happening.

What video card model and nVidia driver version are you experiencing the issue with?

Re: BZ running with WINE emulator?

This reminds me of the days when people argued that the "entire graphics code" would need to be rewritten to make BZFlag use OpenGL ES. *cough* Yeah, that'd be a silly argument... :) It would take a considerable amount of work to port BZFlag to OpenGL ES. Pretty much require rewriting all the graph...

Re: BZ running with WINE emulator?

I do not believe there is any way of currently being able to play BZFlag on Android. The whole client would need to be rewritten in Java to get it to work. That is so very untrue. The Android NDK has existed since 2009, and that allows writing code in C/C++ compiled to "ARM, MIPS or x86 native code...

Re: Issue with macOS High Sierra

Played around with the graphics settings? Vsync, texture quality etc.? Since my first computer I've only had integrated graphics and have always been running low graphic settings to avoid low framerates. Modern systems may actually run slower with our lower quality settings since they no longer opt...

Re: Servers Grouping and Names

I think in the short term is doesn't matter too much. Long term, there's directions we could go that would make playing on a specific map easier. For instance, decoupling the map from the server so that a single server instance can host arbitrary maps, with players merely choosing which map to play ...

Re: 2.4.12 Slow load of servers

For me, on two versions of Windows 10 (1511 and 1709), both versions of the game load the list in about 1.5 seconds. Do you have a firewall on that system that is perhaps blocking one version from accessing the Internet? 30 seconds could be a timeout, at which point it may be using the server list b...

Our "Free For All" is already what "team deathmatch" is in other FPS games. What you're describing sounds more like a team-based last man standing with some minor variations in the rules.

Also check the output of "bzflag -version" and let us know if it says -SDL or -SDL2 at the end.

I was not running the embedded port. I was running the normal full OpenGL version of the game. I was getting about 30FPS on the Tuxee map running at 800x480 resolution on a Pi3.

Re: error: ‘bz_changeTeam’ was not declared in this scope

That "third-party API" isn't an API, it's internal bzfs functions and structures that can and will change without notice, breaking plugins that rely on it. BZFlag 2.4.x does not have a mechanism to change a player's team during the game, only cheap hacks.

Re: Raspberry Pi port

It already runs on the Pi, unmodified, if you enable the experimental OpenGL driver. I've run it this way on the Pi 3 with the official Pi display (so, lower resolution of 800x480) at a reasonable framerate. There's also an OpenGL ES fork that exists now.

Re: Unable to play

Someone else from your ISP caused problems and resulted in your entire ISP being banned. You can contact the owner of the server and ask them to whitelist your account. You can use Strayer's BZStats site to see the owner of a server. Just click on the server in question and it will show the name of ...

Re: Bzflag app data cache and/or server being used as spam server?

BZFS0221_1-Servers is the cached list of servers for 2.4.x (which uses the protocol string BZFS0221). To be fair, System Restore was at least pretty garbage in XP days (maybe better now?) and I don't think I've ever had it work. It either didn't fix the problem, or it just broke the system completel...

Re: possible jumping related bug

Because it's all part of the same game loop. Drawing, input handling, simulation, network code, and probably other stuff all take turns in the game loop. So lower FPS means that input, simulation, and network processing all get done fewer times per second.

You can't assume a license. It either has one, or it doesn't. If it doesn't have a license, no rights beyond what traditional copyright law provides are given to the general public.
