Re: New Release: 2.4.14 "Hello Motto"

I also noticed I had messed up the source archives slightly, so I have re-posted those. The only difference was that the originals had outdated title.png/title.psd and BZFlag.nsi (the Windows NSIS installer script) files showing version 2.4.13.

Re: f5kicker 1.1

Honestly not even sure this one does anything anymore. The screenshot code was redone to use a thread years ago so it wouldn't cause the issue with the tank passing through solid objects. I'm thinking we also don't trigger a pause when we screenshot anymore.

I'm sure at least half of those accounts are unactivated accounts that have never been used, as I believe phpBB counts all users in the database. :)

The old installers are still available. The change I made affects XP's ability to connect to central services. Read the first post again.

Re: Plans to drop support for Windows XP and older clients

The first phase is partially completed. I have a new server spun up and configured and am pointing all traffic to that host (other than the main www.bzflag.org site). I'm now working on upgrading a second host that will be put back in rotation afterwards. EDIT: Second host is upgraded now. Just wait...

Re: timed match procedure

You don't need the --enable-shared option as that's the default. Also, TimeLimit is an included plugin, so you don't need to pass that one to --enable-custom-plugins. You only pass extra plugins to --enable-custom-plugins. The bundled ones are always built.

Re: timed match procedure

We do include a readme file for each plugin, and the TimeLimit plugin's readme includes the commands. https://github.com/BZFlag-Dev/bzflag/blob/2.4/plugins/TimeLimit/README.TimeLimit.txt The -password option is insecure as there is no way to change a password on a live server and it's prone to being...

Just a reminder that we're approaching the end of March. I will begin the first phase of the plan, dropping support for XP clients, within the next week or two.

I was merely providing facts countering your hyperbole about forums going extinct. I made no claims that other communication platforms aren't also popular.

Re: Idea: Open Forum Discussion

Forums are still hugely popular on the web. Many communities in gaming have forums. Steam and GOG have forums. Ubisoft has forums. Epic Games has forums (even for that new game you might have heard of, Fortnite, with thousands of threads about their recently added Battle Royale mode). Apple, Dell, a...

I think you can pass multiple pieces of text to send. So try "/listPlayer" "/quit"

Dunno if you were responding to optic or me. If you were responding to me, it wasn't a case of two plugins conflicting. The PlayerDB plugin was being loaded twice.

PlayerDB worked fine on my server. I seem to recall the issue was that you guys were accidentally loading the plugin twice. :)

Re: noradar

Depending what you mean by "bases" it might not be possible. I don't believe the "base" object for CTF maps allows things like materials. So, if you're trying to make a CTF map, you might be stuck with them showing on the radar.

This thread is quickly veering off topic. The topic was about obtaining a public hosting key, not tips for hosting a server. If they have questions about that, they can ask in a new thread.

Could be bad RAM too, as the laptop graphics probably makes use of your system memory. Hard to say though.

Re: I'm Leaving BZFlag....

It could be your actual graphics card dying, not a driver issue. I had a nVidia 9800GTX+ that worked normally for desktop stuff, but if you threw a game at it it would start to misbehave.

Re: Plans to drop support for Windows XP and older clients

That will probably still work, but I can't guarantee that XP clients won't do something silly like crash out when they try to load the MOTD or the server list. (Worst case, you can pass the -nomotd -nolist arguments to disable them both.)

Plans to drop support for Windows XP and older clients

This just a heads up that I am planning to drop support for all remaining Windows XP users as well as older clients on all platforms. Windows XP clients Support for Windows XP was already removed from the game in our 2.4.10 release, but older clients would still run on XP. However, I am planning to ...

Re: Unexpected Disconnections by Servers and what to do if they happen.

The loss/lag values for a disconnected client are not going to be useful values, since.. all the packets for that connection is lost, and the lag is an average over a period of time. With a registered name, you should be able to reconnect right away since it should ghost the old connection off.
