I actually think its pretty good. I remember looking at another attempt at a BZFlag myspace and it turned out horrible. I like the design, and I like how its simple, just with a brief description, a screenshot and links. Much better then the last attempt. Ducky has a point, but I think it's unfair t...

I use that to compile, i never had any problems. The only thing that i did differently to you was that i downloaded a slightly older version of directx sdk (june 07) because it mentioned that directories may change in newer versions so i figured the older, the better. Seems silly to most people but ...

The first one I picked out was at random. Tad's GM War. You can imagine how horrified I was at how complex BZFlag was. The next server i went on was boxy, where I learnt to be a proffessional n00b.

That is extremely cool. I never realised you could make moving objects, even if they don't affect the actual tank, they could add an interesting twist to gameplay if used in the right way (/me thinks).

Bzflag internet usage

Before people start (hopefully they won't), I have spent time searching the forums on this, and did not come up with anything, all I can remember was a topic awhile ago about how much bandwidth servers take up on a host, and I'm not sure if that is relevant anyway. To the question - Excluding the do...

When running servers on windows, i find the easiest way to do it is to just open up notepad, type in my "bzfs -world /path/to/map.bzw", press enter, then type "pause" (useful for when you come up with errors), then save it in your bzflag 2.0.8 directory as server.bat or something...

I have gotten error messages like those before, if the command prompt screen stays up don't worry about it, your server is still running and it should be fine. I came up with the error in particular because when i saved it, even though i saved it as map.bzw, it was really map.bzw.txt, it was just th...

Perhaps i shall point out what I think CBG has been trying to hint to you, which is spelled out quite largely in his signature. Map Development group I think thats pretty much where you go if you need great map makers other then louman, and also it is spelled out quite clearly that they are willing ...

A bit of terminology for you, since if you want to keep making maps you won't be treated badly by others. A map is not the same thing as a server, a server refers to the bzfs program, which hosts the map. If i say i have a map, it means that i have what you made there, but if i say i have a server, ...

Few bugs as mentioned above, but i want to comment you and say how relieving it is to see people putting work and thought into their maps, as opposed to other people i look at on the map releases section who pull maps out of their butts every week that dont add proper thought to gameplay, etc.

The wiki has an index which if you follow, within 1 link you can find an index of everything you will need to make transparent blocks. I found the required pages to learn this in about 2 minutes, so you could've just done it yourself, you don't have to ask about everything. You need to know 2 things...

DeathFire, everything you need to know is out there, it just requires a little bit of searching. Since people don't write howto's on "compiling the particular plugin that you want, under your specific circumstances", just compromise. my.bzflag.org/w/ is a good starting point, it will give ...

This is a great idea, it is so annoying in matches when you get shot after the game is paused.

My 2nd main problem (main one being the double jumping), is that i frequently turn the scoreboard/console on and off, to check flags, kills, etc, and with the new setup i have now my fingers jump all over the place and i can't remember which ones are for which keys, and i end up turning off my radar...

What is your key mapping / what is the best key mapping

I've been looking around about this for a while, and i've been trying to figure out what the best key mapping system is. For most of the time i've been playing, i used left/right mouse to shoot, middle mouse to restart/lock on/identify, and tab to jump, space bar to drop flags. I recently discovered...

It wont happen unless you host it as part of the bzfx network, even then you wouldn't be allowed to own the server running it, meteorite would have full control of it. But i doubt it will happen anyway, because i think as the server owners they prefer the crowd not to be split between 2 different bo...
