Long time no see fellas - what's new in the BZFlag world?

I gotta grab a copy of the client and give it a shot sometime.

Re: Mouse or arrow keys?

I started playing FPS' with this game (and some brief encounters with Doom / Wolfenstein and their ilk / age-group). I ALWAYS played with the keyboard (no mouse). Then, got a console system (PS3), and started doing some FPS there (COD, BF), and on the PC, having tried to learn to use the mouse for t...

Re: Your BZFlag Hero/Master

Been a while - family and real life take the most of my time now, so I've not played for years (I think) ttfkad: thanks for the kind words. Folks I admire: JeffM, captain_proton, scanline, Kernel Panic, Raspberry, purple_panzer and many many others from way back when I set this forum up and was lear...

some classics

There were two maps that alot of the 'old timers' (or which I am not one) used to play on - that I loved playing on. 1. Turkey server -- not sure what the map name really was -- this was a server hosted by KernelPanic back in 2001-2003 or so. Razberry, kp, dervish dukot, myself, and many others play...

820, if I remember right

Back on turkey.moongroup server with kernel panic, raspberry, dervish, spiff, etc

ST is your friend -- alas, no time anymore, so the suckage these days is immense (as was demonstrated to me this morning as I kicked the 2.0.8 treads for the first time in a loooooonnnngggg time.

indeed, but it took me about 13 hours to get that score against what were then really good players (e.g. kernel panic, dervish dukot, raspberry, tazmaniac, etc). That was a marathon I won't soon try :) My butt still aches.

well, it's been eons, but I once got a 809 on the Turkey server.

Whoopee. :)

Of course, you can always harden your electronics against nuclear scintillation and the effects of EMP, but I don't think most of us can afford the necessary measures ;)

However, a good flag to combat the emp could be HD (hardening). Makes you immune.

If you could get build tools and what not on it, I don't see why the linux xbox or ps2 versions wouldn't work, sure.

Just compile it for your platform (I imagine that the mesa libs and other necessary garbage may pose a problem)

But, I'm no dev :)

Phyvo,
The MAC OSX gurus (afaik), are learner, and JBDGriz.

I would try to contact them on IRC (learner also goes by brlcad on IRC). The server is irc.freenode.net:6667, and the channel is, surprisingly, #bzflag.

Have you all ever noticed a crash as a result of playing bz over the wireless network? I.e. Is your router unable to handle UDP properly?

Thanks,

A question for all you bz'ers

Heya, I was wondering. How many of you play bz on a wireless setup? OS doesn't matter, but would be nice to know. If you do play on a wireless setup, would you mind giving details, such as: version of bz OS Any other active processes that may be using UDP (games and such) What model / version / firm...

I would imagine you'd have to fiddle with the code for the client, and only return those servers you're interested in. Unless some dev has already added some sort of filter to the server list.

well, the problem is, as I understand it ... you would need to compensate for negative angles, if indeed, shooting is to be allowed with a flag of this nature. For example, suppose I were to drive on a ceiling in a box, and an enemy crept up on me -- how do I shoot the enemy on the floor while I am ...

The problem with a flag idea such as that, is not so much the climbing on stuff, as it is the aiming / shooting. Ask patlabor on IRC sometime to expound on the difficulties of changing the aiming mechanism.

unfortunately, every command can be abused -- if you have, say 5 of your buddies on a 12 player server, they all /register, and /identify, then essentially, they control the server. imho, it's more for scrupulous players, when there is a condition that needs addressing, but there are no admins aroun...

There is, by the way, a way to send money (if you've a paypal account). Go to http://sf.net/projects/bzflag , click on the 'Donations' link, and then click the amount you would like to donate. Any amount is appreciated by the Team / Tim Riker, and it will go towards DNS costs and other associated co...

indeed -- the /poll flag reset command should only reset _all_ flags (including ones you've got on yer tank).

Makes it entirely fair for all involved.

Indeed it should. The server should be intelligent enough to compare overlapping blocks enough so that it can determine if a flag can rest there (but I have no idea how to do that logically, without a big giant block o code). I'll leave that to the smarter folk :)

a /poll flag reset would be nice as well (completely off topic, so shoot me ;) ). The reason I state this, is that there is a 'bug' with the rufus.homelinux.org server -- 4 buildings (2 pairs of 2) that have these ridiculous cracks in them. Of course, some weenie figured out that you can pretty much...

ya know, I was noticing that same problem last night. Remember kids, it's a CTF server, not an FFA server.

We tried to get them flags outta there, but no joy. I think that whoever does own the server should slap a pyramid in those 2 cracks to fix that map 'bug'.
