Re: bzstats.strayer.de - yet another stats site...

Perhaps anecdotal, but every single server I know of that has required auth to spawn has ended up falling into relative obscurity, no matter how popular they were, within a few weeks. It sounds great as an idea, but in practice is rather self-defeating. Unregistered players bias the popular servers ...

Re: Some smaller updating choices

It's not worth the administrative overhead and very few people would know what to do with a patch file. Sorry.

Re: What are BZFlag staff focusing on now?

If I'd wanted to use silly ascii art, I would have used it. It's entirely on topic if you're a dev. The subtle undertone and meaning of those words are beyond comprehension if one does not live on the IRC channel. I said pie. I meant pie. Everybody likes pie. I suppose in addition to pie, another an...

2008 Google Summer of Code promotional flyer

IFF we are once again accepted into the Google Summer of Code, there will be more announcements coming regarding various activities and opportunities we have planned. In order to get the word out again like last year, there is a 2008 Google Summer of Code promotional flyer available thanks to our ve...

It's a little more than just Robocode ported to C++, though that was a critical step. There's more information about it in the wiki in the Google Summer of Code section, but the basic idea entailed: - implementing BZFlag-compatible run-time protocol engine - converting Robocode API from Java to C++ ...

No, the domain didn't actually expire, but did get close to expiring. The name service provider apparently didn't send out a renewal/expiration notice to Tim causing an automatic DNS update to get propagated that pointed bzflag.org to a placeholder IP address. Everything was rectified within a coupl...

Unscheduled downtime

As many have noticed, the BZFlag list server and this site went down today for several hours. The problem was caused by the disk drives for the main list server filled up completely and went unnoticed (by me) until morning (it happened in the middle of the night, EST). Needless to say, the problem w...

Anakin, Great suggestion, and something already in the works. More news to follow but the idea is that there will be a competition coming up sometimes either later this fall or this winter to get folks introduced to bzrobots. With cash prize(s). Stay tuned for more details, but in the meantime it's ...

Getting together around Mountain View, California

A few of the core bzflag devs will be heading out to Mountain View, California to talk about our experiences with this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC). If there's anyone around in that area (near San Francisco and San Jose areas), feel free to chime in if you're interested in a little get togeth...

leagues

Yes, though in BZFlag they're called league teams instead of clans. There are a couple of leagues that run tournaments and competitions, most notably the CTF league that play Ducati-style: http://league.bzflag.org/ Some teams are open to new memberships, some require invitation or other criteria. hm, hard to say

I've never heard of this happening nor seen it occur. If you're creating a regular "box" box, I can't imagine what would cause it. If you're feeding in your own mesh box, then maybe something is wrong in your mesh that is making your graphics card unhappy. Try having a game client from the...

You need to have a basic understanding of 3D geometry to create maps. If "radius 10" is confusing as a parameter for creating a sphere, then you're really not ready to be creating maps. I'd suggest going through some tutorials or (better yet), go to your local library and ask for books on ...

just let it go

Does it _really_ matter whether it's illegal or not in this context? It does not. I'd go way out on a limb to venture that Adobe doesn't even care about a single license of their software being used for some petty non-commercial use by the kid of some guy that received the software for trial/review ...

Try upgrading to the latest libCURL and rebuild BZFlag if you built it yourself. There were several versions of curl pushed out through apt that were very buggy.

For testing purposes, be sure to delete you config file too before starting the client so that settings are reset to defaults.

Try turning off the "Lighting" option. See if the crashes continue. If you're on Windows, it could also be the version you're using (certain versions have libCURL issues) -- maybe try a previous release version.

absolutely inappropriate

The dispute was raised to the attention of others and was in regards to you running bots on your server to artificially increase your server's position on the list server. This is highly frowned upon in general, particularly when the bots serve no purpose but to do just that (increase stats) or othe...

BZFlag Summer of Code Flyers

As DTRemenak announced earlier today , we're very interested in having students apply to work on BZFlag this summer and get paid for doing so. To help get the word out, there are now flyers prepared that are available in a variety of languages here: http://my.bzflag.org/w/Google_Summer_of_Code#Promo...
