Re: Tank intermitently stops moving

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27222 may be related to the gamma problem.

For movement, maybe there is now a time limit or a repeat limit when holding down keys. That's just a wild guess.

Re: MoFo server thinks I'm using a VPN

XndrK, your computer (or the NAT box it is behind) may have multiple IP addresses and due to Internet routing differences it may use one IP address when contacting the BZFlag list server and another IP address when connecting to MoFo. If so, there isn't anything you can do to fix it other than to pl...

The spawns would be random, so you are correct that one team could be luckier than the other.

Re: Attention Tanks: All Hands On Deck! - We'd like your feedback

Using the freeCtfSpawns world option will let all tanks spawn randomly around the map after a capture, giving no side an AHOD advantage.

Frame rates affect jumping. Press the T key to display yours and tell us what it is for you on the map.

I don't know about mesh vs. box for lag, but there is no arbitrary size limit for bzw files. The biggest bzw files I have seen are under 2 megabytes.

Re: Display latest killed-by-you player

shift + F4 shows the Misc tab in the console window, which shows who killed whom and only a few other things (not chat).

Also, Options->GUI Settings->Panel Height lets you adjust the console window height independently of radar size, so you can have a big radar and a small console.

Re: Client alerts

We're not going to provide alerts about the connection quality of players other than yourself because you can't do anything about it. If you can't tell by the way their tank moves that a player is laggy, jittery, or losing packets then alerts about it would do nothing but distract from playing the g...

Re: Open Letter to the LU community regarding rule changes

Leagues United is the result of a conspiracy between the council and server operators, who all agree to cooperate to produce a framework for competitive team play. The league is kept alive on a daily basis by all of the following: players game server owners/operators web site owner/operator Remove a...

Along with Rapid Fire, the Machine Gun (MG) flag also lets tanks fire fast bullets with a short range. Some maps have adjusted settings that give a longer MG range.

Code: Select all

-loadplugin TimeLimit,15,20,30
is the main Ducati plugin that is relevant now.

In later years Ducati league servers also used the leagueOverSeer plugin from https://github.com/allejo/leagueOverSeer .

Re: Brightness doesn't work in 2.4.8 on Antergos Linux

My understanding of this problem is hazy but I think this gamma problem was introduced in Fedora Linux by the fix to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=891973 . Basically, the ability to read the actual current gamma setting was lost and instead BZFlag reads the default setting (e.g., 1.018...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies

If there are any constructive suggestions in this thread, they are cleverly concealed in the nearly 3000 words Zehra has contributed. Enough. Before I lock this thread I get to make the last comment: Nearly all of the server owners are satisfied with the degree to which their rules (if any) are prec...

Re: A few thoughts on server policies

You neglected to tell us how to improve consistency in rule application. For example, you could suggest that each server have exactly one admin who would presumably be more consistent than a group of them. That particular idea has some negative aspects. It would help us for you to describe both the ...

Re: Named Flags

this would require some/lot of work for makers, instead of a simple server argument. Implementing that "simple server argument" would require BZFlag development effort comparable to creating the sort of map I described. Furthermore, it can't be implemented in version 2.4.x because a change in the n...

Re: Named Flags

Part of the fun of playing BZFlag is not knowing for certain what a flag is before you pick it up. Map makers who want to remove that uncertainty can establish designated zones for specific types of flags. See the flagbuffet.bzw file in the BZFlag source tree for an example. Clever map makers can cr...

Re: Text receive?

The visual feedback for the status of an observer is that if they are connected then they are responding (the opposite of NR). There is no grace period for NR observers; they are immediately kicked when their NR state has been detected by the game server.

Re: Text receive?

If the network connection and client program are running normally, receipt of the TCP packet(s) containing a chat message is acknowledged automatically at the TCP layer, and the client's continued connection to the server is the confirmation you seek. BZFlag client programs that are not responding a...

Re: Text receive?

The protocol for this situation is to send "are you there?" to the player. If they respond, it is confirmed. If they don't respond, it is not confirmed. No changes to the game are required. Also, server owners have the option to use -maxidle to automatically kick players who do nothing for too long.

A newer version than BZFlag 2.4.2 may work better. If you can compile version 2.4.8 (the most recent release) and it still doesn't work we can probably help further diagonse the problem.

In the previous discussion there was an unstated assumption that all maps would use the same colors, but it is technically easy for each map to use its own set of team colors. Is this request just for the HiX map?
