Re: BZ-Next: A modern OpenGL BZFlag client

BZFlag distributions already contain code (misc/shtool for example) that does not have copyright assigned to Tim Riker. Such code must be clearly marked with appropriate copyright statements and we need to have the compatible license well attributed. This is an extra burden on the project and we pre...

Re: Kicked for moving too fast

The sensitivity of that anti-cheat feature can be adjusted with the bzfs -speedtol command line argument. The default value is 1.25, so 2.0 may be enough to keep it from being triggered:

Code: Select all

bzfs -speedtol 2.0

Re: Campy Players, Not Maps (Case Study: "Two Tanks")

BZFlag itself is a gaming framework, and the kind of game you get depends on the map you are in. Most maps, including HiX, provide ample opportunity to use strategy and I wouldn't find it fun otherwise. The strategies used on The Two Tanks and HiX are mostly very different, and the fact that they ea...

Re: Launch and cursor issues

The Fedora RPM of BZFlag may indeed work better than the Flatpack version. I recommend trying it.

I think it is normal that the cursor is always visible when playing in a window (not fullscreen). I am unsure if we could change that.

Don't just leave when an opponent is so good that you aren't having fun. Switch to observer and follow them for a few minutes to learn their playing techniques.

Re: Need help with Internet connection

Let's confirm that the graphics card is doing its job. The
glxinfo | grep rendering
command produces "direct rendering: Yes" when hardware graphics acceleration is working. If so, that isn't the problem.

Re: Not all weapons should do 100% damage

In my Sahara Desert Warfare map at BRL.ARPA.NET:5154, players always spawn on a platform with an ample supply of Shield flags. Grabbing one before dropping onto the battlefield ensures that it takes two hits to be killed. This isn't quite the same as a less-powerful weapon but it works with the stan...

When there are no admins present the next best thing is to use the /report command to notify the server operator about the situation.

Re: Tank intermitently stops moving

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27222 may be related to the gamma problem.

For movement, maybe there is now a time limit or a repeat limit when holding down keys. That's just a wild guess.

Re: MoFo server thinks I'm using a VPN

XndrK, your computer (or the NAT box it is behind) may have multiple IP addresses and due to Internet routing differences it may use one IP address when contacting the BZFlag list server and another IP address when connecting to MoFo. If so, there isn't anything you can do to fix it other than to pl...

The spawns would be random, so you are correct that one team could be luckier than the other.

Re: Attention Tanks: All Hands On Deck! - We'd like your feedback

Using the freeCtfSpawns world option will let all tanks spawn randomly around the map after a capture, giving no side an AHOD advantage.

I don't know about mesh vs. box for lag, but there is no arbitrary size limit for bzw files. The biggest bzw files I have seen are under 2 megabytes.

Re: Display latest killed-by-you player

shift + F4 shows the Misc tab in the console window, which shows who killed whom and only a few other things (not chat).

Also, Options->GUI Settings->Panel Height lets you adjust the console window height independently of radar size, so you can have a big radar and a small console.

We're not going to provide alerts about the connection quality of players other than yourself because you can't do anything about it. If you can't tell by the way their tank moves that a player is laggy, jittery, or losing packets then alerts about it would do nothing but distract from playing the g...

The league is kept alive on a daily basis by all of the following: players game server owners/operators web site owner/operator Remove a...

Along with Rapid Fire, the Machine Gun (MG) flag also lets tanks fire fast bullets with a short range. Some maps have adjusted settings that give a longer MG range.

Re: Brightness doesn't work in 2.4.8 on Antergos Linux

My understanding of this problem is hazy but I think this gamma problem was introduced in Fedora Linux by the fix to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=891973 . Basically, the ability to read the actual current gamma setting was lost and instead BZFlag reads the default setting (e.g., 1.018...
