I'm also having issues with getting the Riva to allow a display higher than 800x600 (I get a perpetual black screen at 1184x), so maybe once I get FC4 installed things will go a little more smoothly (I'm a complete dunce when it comes to Linux, so that doesn't help ...

Reinstalling Fedora Core 3 turned out to be more painless than I expected. I'm getting around 20FPS now with the Mesa lib.
