Re: lag

I take a simpler approach to the maths behind lag. Speed of light in a vacuum = 300,000 km/s / 1000 = 300 km/ms. Light signals propagate at 2/3 speed in optical fiber = 200 km/ms. A ping must be returned, i.e. travel from source to destination and then back to source, thus halve the distance travele...

Re: read this it's got to be the coolest idea for a flag ever

Actually, that's how super-flags came to be in the first place... And look at the Wings flag. That was first a cheat, and now it's an actual flag. Ah, interesting bit of history there that I didn't recall reading before that totally debunked my theory. :o  I do recall that there was a fair amo...

Re: Idea: Hunt the General

Thanks for the feedback - glad others like it. I agree that it seems to have a reverse geno feel to it - I almost called it "hunt the geno". Another name I thought about was "check mate" (i.e. game over when the king is captured). And yes, the general wouldn't get another flag (a...

Idea: Hunt the General

Sort of a bend on the hunt the rabbit, only team based where one tank on every team holds a "general" flag (could be the team colour flag). It cannot be dropped or stolen. This flag probably should be held by the player with the highest score on the team. If the general is killed, it is as...

Re: read this it's got to be the coolest idea for a flag ever

There was a guided laser cheat going around a while back. My thoughts are that any idea for a new flag which was already thought of by someone who creates cheat clients can't be a good idea.

Re: How can I fix my lag?

In the international community, a common cause for lag (but not jitter or packetloss) is distance. Even a great connection cannot overcome distance based latency, and if the server is on the other side of the world from you then it can easily add an extra 200+ ms. A player with high latency but low ...

Re: why genocide on ctf maps?

In my experience with MW2, the geno is rarely used to actually help capture the flag. The far majority of cases is just the geno fans rocking up points. And this is where the flaw in geno lies - the scoring system is too attractive. It shouldn't be, as the point of CTF isn't to rock up the kills at ...

I don't see self destruct disfavourably in any fashion. In my view, the most imprtant argument against having any bad feelings about people using SD is its 5 second delay. If it is taking you 5 seconds to hit them from the point when they determine you have them inexorably trapped, then it was your ...

lol again the lag problem :P...and i mean AGAIN usually a good server would have a good admin team, and their lag limit would be "the lag limit". If an admin warns you about your lag even it's below the limit then just leave the server lol, or ignore him, coz if he's not happy about your ...

A lag of 300-400ms is explainable by distance alone - i.e. a player on the other side of the world can get that high. Connecting via satelite would raise it even higher (say up to 900ms) as the communication satelites are 35,0000km above the surface of the Earth. But 3000ms indicates real connectivi...

I consider it unethical to pass information on as an observer that the player could not otherwise know . Offering strategic advice isn't a problem because it allows the recipient to become a better player over time and it is something a better player may already know as the recipient. But alerting o...

In the event that the mine plugin is used, it isn't really the useless flag anymore. The nature of the flag is changed at its most fundamental level.

Tiny, Narrow, High Speed, Agility, etc. are decent flags that most people can at do decently with. Other flags, such as Useless, Thief, Steamroller, Masquerade, etc. aren't especially useful in all situations. Useless flag is never useful. G5 Except when you want to thwart someone flashing a...

I see people pick up a SR flag and drop it, and I'm like "Why would you drop that?" It can be a matter of the right tool for the job. SR can be an effective flag in many situations, but like all the others it can be downright useless in some situations. I don't see a problem with discardi...

Unfortunately, not many people seem to be willing to take a blocking position to let somebody else get in and kill the GM - they all want to make the kill themselves and often times mindlessly frag anybody else that gets close This is problematic in general. A lot of people complain about camping o...

PZ flag - a possible upgrade to its abilities

I've been having an idea about improving the PZ flag, and the other thread about PZ flag worlds had me thinking. A lot of people think that the PZ flag is entirely useless, and on many arenas I have to agree. What if PZ "zoning" was tied in to your jump key, so instead of jumping on that k...

Don't you think that a flag that gave people radar on a no-radar server would be way too powerful? Without a radar, you'd be at a huge disadvantage. Possibly, but you could limit the radar. There is a point. I would say the conditions would tend to require a shot limit to the flag if nothing else. ...
