I just wanted to add that version 2.4.0 of bzflag has been crashing on OSX 10.6.8 also.
I just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone who contributed to this discussion! It is nice to find answers to problems like these.

#leaf polys on bush leaves
Hi BIYA,
Just curious on whether you figured out a way to reduce the #polys for leaves. I can't tell how many you're using from the jpg.
Nice "jungly" bush by the way.
Hope you're having fun,

Nice Stuff!
Wow, a lot of posts in the past few days. I just caught up with them. Great stuff so far. And eagle, I like your mushrooms. There are certainly varieties that match the shape of the ones you posted. Amanitas for example: http://www.texasphotoplus.com/Mushroom%20007.jpg For color contrast, there is a...

textures for trees
Though I need textures like for the leaves and stuff. Does anyone know where i could get textures? The tree model I posted above includes a jpg file with textures for the bark and leaves. I know nothing about modeling, so I don't know if this would work for you or not. Thanks very much, Red Cobra!

OBJ format work?
One of the formats for the tree is OBJ; does that work for Wings3D?
The model is about 8.2 MB uncompressed, which is way bigger than I had expected. Perhaps it's too complex for the map without modification.

Wings3d not good for trees; found free(?) tree model
I spent some time this morning looking for tutorials on tree modeling in Wings3d. It looks like other tools are more suited for generating fractals; I found one question on the Wings3D forums about trees and didn't see any good responses. I then found this site where it appears you can download a fr...

LouMan says OK on using his trees
I can't thank everyone enough for taking interest in this idea. I posted to the original thread saying that LouMan doesn't have time to personally help, but we can use his tree objects. Apparently they're easy to extract for someone who has experience with bzflag mapping. BIYA, those ideas sound gre...

LouMan says OK on trees, plus it shouldn't be hard!!
Here's what Louman wrote in a message to me: Anyone with a little knowledge of map making with bzflag should be able to extract my tree objects from the Mystic Valley map I posted in the Map Releases section. The pine trees are in the prefabs section. I'm sorry I can't help more, but I'm swamped wit...

cvs command
So, what command is it to get the last source before the API was changed? Click on the last link of the first post in this thread. That will take you to a CVS download page. There are two cvs commands listed there. You'll want to add the following to the second command: -r v2_0branch Or perform the...

Share trees?
Hi LouMan, I've started a discussion about an aerial combat map that uses trees, and was wondering if you'd be interested in helping. The discussion is here: http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=5638 I don't know if anyone in the discussion has experience in making maps. But I thought perhaps we ...

A 5-yr old Dell Dimension
I've noticed a big jump in graphics performance in version 2.0.4. Probably because my graphics hardware is comparatively weak. I'm now getting 30 fps reliably.
Finally I can practice using Agility. FPS was too choppy before!

Latest CVS build now 2.1.x?
Hi,
I've tried grabbing the 2.0.5 source from CVS, but last night I ended up getting 2.1.x. It compiles, but no server on the public list is compatible.
How can I specify a CVS tag when I grab the source?

trees and bases
Wow yes, the trees in Mystic Valley are great. He also has pine trees in his Island Hopping map, but I like the leafy trees a lot. Anyone know LouMan well enough to ask if we can use his trees? It might shorten the time to a first map if he would agree. Actually, the Mystic Valley map is not far off...

My email address
Red Cobra, just substitute a real '.' for the word DOT, and '@' for the word AT. Stick it all together and you'll have my address. I don't post it in a form that would be convenient for a web spider to grab and add to a spam list.

Anyone know how to extract trees from a map?
Red Cobra, Thanks. It sounds like you want to make new objects, or are you planning to insert one or multiple copies into a map?
Anyone know how to extract a tree from someone else's map? LouMan's "Island Hopping" map has pine trees we could use.

Clarification: I won't be making map
Just to clarify: I never have, nor will I probably ever, be making a bzmap. But I'd be happy to be project manager. Hah, I never thought I'd say that.
I know map-making is probably not hard, but I have too many responsibilities already, including breadwinner.

trees in bzmaps
Thanks for offering to try this! I've seen other bzmaps with trees, but I have no idea if it's possible to easily extract one from a map.
See LouMan's "Island Hopping" map for some pine trees. It's on the public server list.
My email is brian DOT bonnlander AT cox DOT net.
