Re: [SOLVED] Can't turn right or reverse

The build is not entirely happy on this OS. Enemy tanks flash colours sometimes on the radar, and shots can be white blocks out of the window. FPS is good though.

Looks like it. What's the significance?

~$ bzflag -version

gives:

Code: Select all

BZFlag client 2.4.2.20130817-MAINT-linux-gnu-SDL (protocol 0221) http://BZFlag.org/

Re: [SOLVED] Can't turn right or reverse

Thanks, that's done it. Running in windowed mode works ok. Just to document it - it's a compliled version of 2.4 running on Ubuntu 12.04 (i.e. I used "make install" etc). If I simply press "F1" to enter windowed mode, that doesn't help, I just get a black window, even if I try to...

[SOLVED] Can't turn right or reverse

It's bizarre. Have just installed the old 2.0 on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 to test performance on my new PC. I can't turn right or reverse (mouse works normally for other things). So I also tried compiling 2.4 and got the same problem. If I set the mouse to be 'confined to mousebox' it is only...

Re: Gaming ISP in UK

Update: March 2011 I've changed to Plusnet and my lag and jitter have dropped. I can't be too specific because following a linux upgrade I seem to get spikes of high jitter every few minutes. I don't know if this is ISP or my PC. BTW my router did not get on well with Plusnet so I fell back on an ol...

Re: Packet loss after Ubuntu upgrade

The only driver change I could make would be to use NDIS wrapper with the windows one, but I don't think that the USB dongle is the problem - other networking is super fast. I think it might be an issue with background processes - if I leave the PC for a few minutes before connecting its fine - jitt...

Packet loss after Ubuntu upgrade

Recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8 to 9, then 10.04 Previously the game ran fine, but now I'm commonly kicked for packet loss, or high jitter. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if it's a wifi signal strength issue - by moving my wifi dongle around I change from 50% to 70% which seems to help but it's not ...

Re: Ubuntu - game becomes windowed

blast This was a bug in either Compiz (Desktop Effects) or xscreensaver when mixed with SDL games such as BZFlag. So you have two options. Either disable Desktop Effects (under the Appearance control panel) or disable the screensaver. You could also try upgrading to 9.10 to see if that fixes the pr...

Ubuntu - game becomes windowed

Hi

I'm playing on Ubuntu 9.04
Every few minutes, the game (full screen) will spontaneously become windowed and I am unable to steer until I have minimised and reopened the window.
Any suggestions why this happens? I wonder if it's some background process kicking in perhaps?

Thanks

Re: Gaming ISP in UK

I've asked Plusnet how they class BZflag, and they tell me it's peer-to-peer, so I'm not sure if I would get good enough connection - does it matter if the ISP categorises the game as such?

Can GM kill ST?

I hav learned that GM can't lock onto a stealthed. But could if you found yourself pointing at a ST and fired as if using a conventional shot, and the missile hit the tank - would it kill it?

Re: New player shooting

Yah, on behalf of noobs (several months in, but still very much a noob) we have to accept that if we want to play then we PLAY. It can be disheartening and many of my friends I recommended the game to simply gave up because they were tired of dying, but this seems to be true of most online games wor...

Re: BZFlag website

The only problem i have expierienced with the homepage is the download part. Yes, I agree with that. I've installed BZF before, but when I tried to install again (windows user) the download link I followed was not to the installer - some source code package maybe, who knows. Anyway, I considered d/...

Spazzy
Thanks for that. BE can't use my phone line unfortunately, so I'll look at Demon. I'm also thinking about Plusnet as I've heard good reports and their top service is £20pm, compared to £15 for VM - worth the extra to keep BZF going!

Gaming ISP in UK

Virgin Media seem to have trouble with gaming traffic.
Can anyone in the UK recommend an ISP good for BZF?

Geographical list of servers

I've found some lists of servers with interesting data, but I can't find a list by location - does such a thing exist? I'm connecting from the UK and it can be hard to play without lag - it would be great to be able to concentrate on the local servers.
Thanks

Is there a problem today - Sun 8th Nov?

Hi Have been practically unable to connect to any servers today (I'm in the UK) - is there a global problem? If I do get connected, i have lag 2000-8000! Yesterday seemed to be OK, but this weekend is the first time I've connected for months.... Otherwise, my internet connection is fine. Speedtest a...

Perfect. Thanks.
I used the 'Revive Colour' function in Photofiltre to increase contrast and colour saturation.
I also reduced contrast and saturation of the grass. That helped a lot too.

Change tank colour

I find it hard to tell the difference between green/blue tanks.
I've seen in the past instructions for altering tank colours, but I can't remember/find them again.
Is it still possible in the latest release? If so, I'd be grateful for help.
