Re: CTF as a sole focus

I can't tell if I actually like the idea of no shooting, but I think it can be done with no new plugins or much tinkering. One way is to have one burrow flag and make it impossible to access a base without it, keep opposite team flags on either base and voila. Maybe add PTF plugin on top of that. Ed...

Re: Scrolling in the ControlPanel with scrollwheel doesn't work

Check your config file and look for 'scrollpanel' to find what key bindings are there for it. On my config I have wheel bound to firing.

Re: Agatha's Thoughts on High-Level Gameplay

Players decide which game they want to play, but certain maps encourage certain play styles. It is plausible that some maps are perfectly playable for those seeking depth, but the default style encouraged does not match that. I'd play a timed CTF match on apoc with players committed to playing the o...

Re: Agatha's Thoughts on High-Level Gameplay

For me, I see each group of maps as a completely different game from the rest. One group revolves around tactical depth and team play, another encourages camping and repetitive use of familiar flags and yet another is fast paced action where strategy comes as an afterthought. Each one has unique aud...

I will change the name since it's already taken and I will not be posting further updates till the game is ready. Send me a private msg if you like to follow game development.

I'd like to thank everyone who showed interest and gave me feedback.

I like it. One thing though, are notifications supposed to work? I granted permissions in browser and tried testing by adding favorite server and a friend, but I get no notifications for either.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

I like it eti, Hey, thanks for your feedback! My only thing would be that movement box. Being in the bottom right will take getting used to, but feels bad when I dont know where my mouse is cause I cant see it. I would prefer it a lil closer to mid screen, even if its transparency is down so it isn...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

So I made some changes including relocating the motion box. I'd appreciate if you would test it and tell me if it's playable like that. I have not yet pushed a release, waiting for this change to be tested, but the code can be updated using a script. I outlined the update process in an earlier post....

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

No, conventional FPS controls wouldn't do because motion depends on the absolute position of the mouse cursor. I personally think this is one of the best aspects of BZFlag controls, so I'm replicating it.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

For instance, the movement of the UI and crosshair, which both BZ and quite a few FPS players will probably tend to find odd. For BZ players, the movement will be considered "odd" due to moving independently of the crosshair/target sight. The field of view in a great deal of FPS games is completely...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

Thanks for providing that info.

From what I could find, your graphics card can support OpenGL up to version 1.3, so the game may not run on it.

Couldn't Godot just run natively on Linux?
Yes it could. The problem is I'm working with an old version of Godot, and it expects old versions of system libs installed, so it didn't work on some newer distros. Wine on the other hand just works where I tested.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

trpted, what graphics card do you have installed on your computer?

It appears that your card or the installed drivers do not support OpenGL 2

Try this command as root to find the card model:

lspci | grep -i --color 'vga\|3d\|2d'

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

Although the game concept is alright/okay, the handling/interface of it at this point in time is not intuitive. Is it the game menu, the ui, the controls or something else that you find not intuitive ? There seems to be an uncertain game design, as in much of the "apparent" effort going towards the...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

Most games just hash out the files and replace the ones that have changed. You just need a manifest and a web server. Then I don't see the advantage over using rsync. Seems like more work and using a tool not designed for the task. Also for something that says it's open source... where is the sourc...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

Umm why the heck does a video game need rsync? Just for updates? That seems like a huge security hole. I needed a method to quickly update game files without resorting to download the game every time something changes. rsync works very well for this. I couldn't find examples of how other games do i...

Hello again! Here we go with a first public release! That's not to say game is ready for public consumption, it's far from that. Oh, that's quite awesome, I'll make sure to give it a try! Do you think you could put the video on youtube, or would you rather keep it "semi-confidential" so far?
Thanks! I'm just keeping it simple. Perhaps when the game gets some polish I'll start thinking about more exposure.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development

Small update. I have recently redone the code for bots to be more adaptable. It is still far from finished, but the new code should be much more flexible.
