Re: Thoughts on competitive/league play

how you would teach everyone the format for their mottos? how you would get people to follow the format correctly and consistently? how you expect people to sort through a list of mottos and cross-reference the information to figure out who is willing to play what, with reasonable effort? How would...

Re: Thoughts on competitive/league play

At a first sight, I could suggest what I said time ago: a manual method to facilitate quick decisions. I remind you that not always automated methods are the best, specially if population is low. I am not sure if this is enabled nowadays, but I think it is not. If leagues enabled the Motto to allow ...

Re: 3D Progams - best one?

Based on my 1 year of public hosting/designing experience (tho I also develop) I can tell some things: - (pure) handmade design/edition is very useful; you can, even, make scripts for maps (randomness, etc.) - the few I could research of Blender: you can modelate on it, export the work to .OBJ, open...

Re: Tank intermitently stops moving

In case you are running it from your official repository, I suggest to try compiling it locally (or even using Wine) , and, then, compare the results. Pay attention to the warning messages. Sometimes repo versions have issues, and, apart, local builds always tend to run better. I see you updated you...

bzfs modification - questions

(1) Could I modify bzfs to make it not counting autopilot robots then they can be allowed on public servers (List Server)? I was told by developers time ago I could do modifications and host but I am not sure this kind of modification would be allowed. To not post code, it would not count them at th...

Re: Server Filtering (version 2)

I am very glad that, finally, and specially, the bad language (and similar bad behaviours) issue can catch some interest from the project to possibly make some classification system in the future. Talking with another developer, yesterday, also told me that this issue (and the others mentioned above...

The idea is interesting, but there has been some key points which have been raised on those threads which show why the idea does not work.
And I answered it.

Lag or language policies aren't reported to the server list, you'd have to write filters for the servers you find manually.
This is where Servers Grouping and Names and Servers Classification are to help!

Re: The Tower map

I must be wrong but that explanation reminds me a bit of Lasermania by Louman, with teleporters on the middle which bring you to their 2 towers, but they are placed on corners of the big square map. I don't know very well how the towers work since I didn't play there a lot.

Re: plugin troubleshooting - can't load?

Is this because I'm not running bzfs as root? Never run bzfs (or any other server within possible) as the root user due to security risks. I'm just trying to make the best servers possible, to be a good bzflag steward/citizen. Good for that! Just in case: Compiling on Linux - Help for Beginners (an...

etigah, what the video shows looks pretty good, congrats! (And I like that basketball plus :) ). I run it on Wine time ago, just to have a look, but was not able to see it very well (I was able to play but all was dark except the radar, IIRC). Maybe I try it with Godot for Linux sometime in the futu...

Re: Servers Classification (Protected Mode #2)

I don't know exactly what the last 2 posts are refering to, but seem wrong about the interpretation of mine, as happens often on communications, in general. To clarify it: all I did was just reducing 3 categories to 2; not anything more. The big suggestion, from my part, for servers owners to adopt ...

Hi, atrixnet/musculargenius, I'm glad you start again a server. I am DiverSion non-24-hours server owner (run for 1 year now approx.) and a long-term player. My suggestions are mainly on my signature. Apart of that, to be a good owner, you should dedicate some time periodically to watch over it, not...

Re: Servers Classification (Protected Mode #2)

I return to my first idea of only 2 categories, based mainly on the Bible telling there are only 2 kinds of words: good and bad ones. 'Protected Mode' Servers Classification: [PMFF]: 'Protected Mode' Family-Friendly server: bad words are NOT allowed. [PMNFF]: 'Protected Mode' NON-Family-Friendly ser...

The forum is a good platform. Some people need to avoid being lazy and to check it somewhat often.

IRC is, as well, a good platform.

I am tired of hearing silly arguments and people talking a lot (specially teens).

Re: I'm Leaving BZFlag....

A new card would be the solution; even there are external ones you can plug in. Remeber 3D cards requires lot of ventilation, then be sure to allow it from the base of your computer (I suggest to use some things to raise it a bit more); it could have been the cause of the malfunctioning: burnt. Edit...

Re: Can't cycle through player names

Yes, when it's driving by keyboard (a message appears), your ability to switch names stops at some point. You have to move mouse or use touchpad a bit to enable mouse driving (a new message appears) and then you can do it again. I think it does not work (very well) if you are dead or paused.

Wow, looks pretty good! It is a tiny bit similar to my recent Lasers Battle one. I don't know you very well but, as far as I could see (in example: Blood Bath and Coloratus), your maps seem to have a good mix between art and fun.

Yes, BZ is a great game! Maps which are fun are, also, classic ones and randomly generated ones. But we always have to remember that what helps to enjoy the game, apart of the technical and artistic stuff, is the good ambience.

Re: BZ running with WINE emulator?

I guess, if you are running Debian over a x86 simulated machine (virtualization), you could first try to compile a linux BZ version locally ( Compiling on Linux - Help for Beginners (and Not So Beginners ). In the other hand, I run BZ with Wine long time ago and worked really fine (I didn't notice a...
