Re: givePoint and Retroreflector plugins

Not sure how a laser works in real life, but, if a laser weapon existed, and you were able to reflect it back (with a kind of "shield"), you should not die; only the shooter (tho, not sure if this could be made with custom flags/plug-ins). The "shield" could have a seteable counter about how may hit...

Re: ArenaCTF

"Players try to capture team flags, while having their own team flag on their own base. Running over their own flag teleports it back to their own base. Players must be the last ones to have reached their own team flag as well." I see 3 possible interpretations of the 3rd requirement: 1) The first i...

Re: ArenaCTF

Imagine 4 teams. A, B, C and D. - A and B lose their own flag; - A and B get C and D flags, respectively; - A recovers their own flag; - after it, B recovers their own flag; - "players must be the last ones to have reached their own team flag". Questions: 1) Only B can capture since they are the las...

Re: CTF as a sole focus

Make a hypotesis, in example "CTF maps without shooting are possible", then test it enough to convert it into a tesis: make good maps, in example one with SR on spawns with fun drawings/paths. Remember we are a small community, then the most sure is that, if you have a good idea, you will have to wo...

Re: looking for a race plugin

Consider race maps, as far as I know, are never meant to allow shooting. I guess this is to avoid the complication to start again after the death and players can concentrate only on strategy and skills. Also, scores are not usually saved (not sure if HTF plugin will work since it's another game styl...

Re: Solo bot kick leads to client disconnect

From my experience, both using solo bots and asking admins about them (I have not checked the code), and as far as I know/understand/remember (you will have to check this in any case): - solo bots are not complete users; they are "half user", let's say (in example, they don't have complete lagstats ...

Nice Real-Life Tank Robot (Toy and More)

I just saw, recently, a video of a nice real-life tank robot which has several interesting features. It is RoboMaster Series from DJI, the Chinnesse leader brand of commercial drones. They have S1 and EP models which seem to be oriented to child and teen people, respectively, with features of playin...

Re: Plugins That Adjust Tank Physics

Just to add and remind: BZFlag is, already, a mature game; it is 2.4.20 version and it is approximatedly 30 years old (same as GNU/Linux; MS Windows is about 35; Apple, about 45). "Mature" in the sense it is very usable or advanced on its usable features and has not big errors (though, software can ...

Re: Plugins That Adjust Tank Physics

Agatha: I think I understand you want to make the glider go up again but without making another flap... and, as blast said, this is not possible on this game protocol/model. A thing I undersand is that BZ is a simple game, then we have these flags which are not mean to be too complex or sophisticate...

Re: The current usage of BZAdmin

trpted: remember, always, there is the official documentation, which comes with the game (included files into the game directory/folders). I think people use bzadmin as: - an easy and low resources way to login on their own servers and check all the activity, being able to run commands to administra...

Re: Agatha's Thoughts on High-Level Gameplay

Zehra and Agatha: I think my Real Tactics Series can be seen as having more strategy together with tactics, since have more time to think and decide. Anyway, there is a game style called "Strategy" with systems like Turn-Based and Real-Time ones; BZFlag is an arcade-simulator game: we don't have lot...

Re: THE VOID

To help me understand electronic things I compare them to physical things. Also, you don't only exercise your body but your brain too (which you do with BZ). And watching sports/games is also fun!

My comments on your thread are there.

BTW, this map seems not to have a lot of strategy! :P

Re: THE VOID

Seems good! A comment on your signature: "Stagnation is playing the same map for literal decades. Take down Apoc/Urban/Hix/Duc!" What do you think on sports like soccer, rugby or basketball, since they have the same "map" or field forever and seem to be still fun? I see these BZ maps as classic; the...

Re: Scrolling in the ControlPanel with scrollwheel doesn't work

While I have left button and wheel up set to fire I can still scroll up/down smoothly with touchpad (if you are using a notebook): keep a finger quiet an move the other. (Not sure if you can set more than 2 keys/controls for an action, also (by config file).)

Re: Agatha's Thoughts on High-Level Gameplay

I will be sincere and say I didn't read a lot; but, maybe, Agatha (and others) could come to DiverSion server (when you see it online) and try the testing brand-new Real Tactics (or Real Life Tactics) Series. There are 3 different maps (my first original maps). It's a new style. As one of its basic ...

Re: BZ Client, force registration before being allowed to play

Let's analize it a bit: - mute: it is right, player just needs to rejoin and mute is off --> use plugin 'permanent mute', or something, or just take a stronger action - kick: it is valid as a warning; no problem with it - ban: you have here several ways for doing it: by IP, by IP family and by hostn...

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

About private servers: I know of a group which seems to be running a private server by setting a forum group and showing in servers list only to them (see the '-advertise' server argument). Then it's somewhat private. Another way, the real "private" let's say, is not to set these server arguments (b...

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

Hello and welcome back. I'm glad to see old players coming again. I can suggest Levels and Robots (Simplified Version) since it has interesting and fun concepts. To config a good server you need to read documentation (manual pages) and try different settings. BZ comes, also, with HIX, which is fun, ...

Welcome back. If there is not enough players of the map you want to play in, you can now try nice robots locally to replace them: Levels and Robots (Simplified Version) . My server DiverSion is online regularly with those settings (a nice CTF map similar to Ducati and a nice FFA map similar to Easy ...
