Re: BZ Client, force registration before being allowed to play

Much has been discussed on the matter of improving the way to make it easier for new players. Registration should be less of "required", but more of where one gains some nice benefits from registering. If abuse of chat permissions is an issue, then limit chat permissions to registered players. If ch...

Re: BZ Client, force registration before being allowed to play

The game was never designed with online play in mind. The original design was simply a LAN game. Even if a new (non-protocol breaking) release were made today which prevented people from joining or playing on servers as unregistered, it wouldn't be effective, since people would download the previous...

Re: That Quickshot foggy map

Within the current protocol and before, it is not possible to make teammates solely visible on radar without client modifications. Additionally, if it were to change to a non-radar map, it likely would become a camp ground, as the game play would likely change towards "hide and camp", which would be...

Re: Levels and Robots (Simplified Version)

I like the concept and the way you implemented it. It's solid and basically takes two previously existing concepts and merges them into a single unique and innovative design. The main issue is the lack of server-side bots which are capable of playing the game, which has prevented this from being a m...

Re: PlayHistoryTracker Modification - Track kills made by UselessMine

Perhaps, although server owners may wish to only track kills actually made by players and not kills made on their behalf. (This could be a useful addition to the plug-in, if made an option.) Additionally, if anyone wishes to integrate this and/or submit it, feel free to do so, as the plug-in modific...

Re: Hix w/ only pyramid capture

Either some map trickery or plug-in would make this possible, but since this was not replicated within the '/saveworld', this would be accomplished by a plug-in.

In addition, there is no requirement to release the plug-in and cloning its fuctionality would not be too difficult as well.

Re: Apocalypse In Action :: Planet MoFo

Looking through the forums, the following threads related to F12 were located: F12 abuse, revisited and Ban without F12 threads. The recent updates have reduced the F12 abuse to quite a point, but it seems the issue is slowly shifting. Less of F12 to avoid or geno bait, but instead to leaving to cre...

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

Classic varies to interpretation and only a few maps have tried to closely emulate the original BattleZone type of feel/theme. Some of the early maps made by Dutchrai, The Purple Panzer, Ducatiwannabe or ahs3 may suit your needs. You'll need to find and experiment a bit to see which settings and map...

PlayHistoryTracker Modification - Track kills made by UselessMine

Some people have run quite a few custom flag plug-ins which use world weapons/server shots to kill players, but this leads to where they are not attributed/tracked by PlayHistoryTracker, so this simply modification allows server shots made on the behalf of a player, to be attributed to them. The req...

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

Welcome back to BZFlag. I'm not sure, but perhaps using the "random" world generation capabilities of BZFS may suit your needs. This can be done via the command line options which can be provided to BZFS. There's currently four default game modes: Free For All, Capture The Flag, Rabbit Chase and Ope...

Re: 101

If someone suggests a good way of jointly tracking scores, it probably will be done.
The real difficulty with getting 101 mostly anywhere is the lack of players.
Hopefully we'll see more players in the future and more 101's.

Re: can not talk to list server after playing

#1 Why does it happen? Due to some uncertainties, it is impossible to precisely pinpoint the exact reason "why" it occurs, as the issue may be similar, but the cause may be greatly different. #2 Will it by fixed (if was not fixed already in a newer version) and any ideas of how soon? In addition to...

Would the possibility of primary mouse and keyboard user configurations be considered for 2.6? In other words, default mouse and keyboard user configurations. (Thus the configurations are not in the sense of simply being set towards an "average", but rather already preset to a good extent for either...

Re: can not talk to list server after playing

While I am slightly uncertain if this is the same issue, the same type of "problem" has occurred from time to time. When this occurs, generally simply "refreshing" the list may solve the issue. This is done by the following actions: Join Game -> Find Server -> Servers Servers -> Find Server Find Ser...

The reverse issue may happen if list server requests are done by local proxy.
(As in the case of some server filtering scripts people may run.)

Welcome back. There's been quite a few changes throughout the years, so don't be too surprised at what you see. (Mostly with regards to some of the custom flags which appear on maps like Apocalypse or QuickShots.) Probably the biggest change you'll realize right away is the "-noTeamKills" option, so...

Re: Servers Classification (Protected Mode #2)

Actually the subject of language, especially foul language is highly debatable. Thus making attempts by limiting or trying to "standardize" it to any extent is quite difficult. Even within the same server, much of what is defined as "foul" language is up to the discretion of the admin online at the ...

While I have not yet attempted it, I've strongly considered the possibility of "per" team attributes on objects, such as death, drive-through and shoot-through. Although I am uncertain of it, the possibility of doing so within the current protocol came to me after completing the TeamDeathZones plug-...
