Re: Cannot join games with my registered account - "Callsign is registered, must use Global Authentication" error kicks

Thanks for the insights, Blast. To close this out, here's what turns out to be the issue. Corporate laptop with Zscaler installed for security purposes. Weirdly, though, only the BZ server search and access has the Zscaler IP address associated with the network packets. Once game play is initiated, ...

Cannot join games with my registered account - "Callsign is registered, must use Global Authentication" error kicks me

Admins, I've looked through some similar threads, all are fairly old. When I attempt to join games with my registered Para_Shooter account and use the same password I've always used, I always get kicked with "This callsign is registered. You must use global authentication before playing or use ...

Are any bz players using the new Starlink satellite internet service?

Starlink is coming into fairly wide use, and I plan on switching to this odd "inverse cell-type connection" model where the towers hurtle past in random-seeming orbits, with the user stationary. The latency is relatively low on average, but varies dramatically as the link to a given satell...

Re: Riot now with scoreboard.

LOL... in support of GM, he is normally a couple of points higher than me when we play, and I always enjoy games when he's playing. <cough>. We need to fire up RIOT and get up a game so I can check my score, or at least whether I'm at one or the other extreme (whether I made either list, I mean). Go...

Re: Just a question from a foreigner

That is almost certainly it. I had the same thing happen when I launched from an old desktop icon that fired up 1.6.x, and only saw the four maps and no players. After some calm-breathing techniques and a close look at the screen, I deleted that old icon, found the 2.4.x icon, and <boom> all my maps...

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one

I too have wondered where all the players have gone. I love playing BZ, but it's a lot more fun when there are multiple games going at once with enough players to make them viable. In particular, at least one good team game and one good FFA game - but ideally, at least two or three of each, so that ...

Sure, NP. As to whether single flags are a good or bad thing, it's what it is, and it works very well as it is, for the most part. Still, I have several times imagined what it would be like to collect multiple flags, were that possible. It would be a very different game, that's for sure. Still this ...

Hmmm... Jeff? I thought I saw a donate link or button, but I can't find it. Might have been on sourceforge itself. If it's there, and that makes more sense, let me know. ?? Do you have a way to allow donations to BZF itself? Presumably Paypal or similar... and maybe some sort of policy statement abo...

Well, OK, all you regulars... pony up!

In the past, I've found several useful things out there in either freeware or open source land, which, when I found myself using them on a regular basis, I donated some buck$ in support of a worthy cause. Two that come to mind are Spybot S&D, and Pocket Tanks http://www.blitwise.com/ptanks.html ...

One other idea that has probably been kicked around, but I haven't seen the discussion.... Cumulative flag collection. As it stands now, you can only have one flag at a time. This is cool, as far as it goes. But any old D&D players know that accumulating experience points, magical items, and pow...

If I do "donate", where does the money go, who get

BZF rocks, and I wouldn't mind donating. It's clearly more worth it than most other games I'd pay for... and I enjoy it, and play it a lot. But... I kinda like to know what happens to money I donate, where it goes, what it's used for, who gets it, and so on. Is there an FAQ I've missed about this, o...

OK, fixed it with a rename of the config.cfg file...

Nevermind... I looked through some posts and realized that the config.cfg file is not removed upon removal and reinstall of BZF... So I renamed it, and reinstalled, and <ta da>, it's all working again. What entry in that file might have caused the symptom, I have no idea, nor do I care. I can kill y...

BZF prob on XP: BZF loads but never shows up, process @ 99%

Hi gurus... Another wierd one. BZF was working perfectly on my XP Pro laptop (normal Centrino, 1GB, 1.8GHz). XP bluescreened one day, normal recovery... But now when I load BZF it starts, never shows up, but the process manager shows it running at 99% CPU usage. I have to kill it with task manager. ...

Thanks all!! Got it back to normal...

Thanks for the helpful posts. The details I was missing were the config file location, and where the layout geometry could be set in Options. I find the config file location regrettable, as Windows has an 'applications' section for such things (under documents and settings\<user>\Application Setting...

OK, an update and a question. Update: BZF works OK, even the right-click, as long as the cursor is over the screen area for BZF (top left part of the screen). Just as in windowed mode, if your cursor strays out of the area and you left or right click, you end up "deselecting" BZF in favor ...

Help! BZF screen is small like Windowed, Radeon 7000

Hi gurus... running 2.0.4 on Win XP, with ATI Radeon 7000 (Diamond?) 32M, OpenGL. SiS Motherboard, AMD Sempron 2200 1.5MHz, 512MB. The whole setup used to work OK, till was run once in "windowed" mode, with the little screen in its own window. Now, regular mode still only occupies the smal...

OK, the "brightness" setting in options did help

I found that myself as I was looking through help and options, and it is a work-around. Not elegant, and has to be changed back or it is too bright in the day.

Any other words of wisdom? I'll check back after a while.

Thanx, all. --bmr

How to disable the dim "night" screens, to keep it

OK, all you experts. Actually, just one will do... I hate the dark screen I get when playing at "night". I have a sucky old monitor on my desktop machine that makes certain I'll get killed a lot just because I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING. I also have a laptop that goes dim when on battery power (my...
