P.S whats a Boonie? From the Wikipedia: Boondocks refers to a remote, usually brushy rural area. The expression was introduced to English by American military personnel serving in the Philippines during the early years of the 20th century. It derives from the Tagalog word bundok, meaning "moun...

Hi, Grace F, I live on the West coast of North America, away out in the boonies, and have only a mediocre dial-up connection, so I have a similar problem as you. I've been playing BZFlag for a number of years, and, despite the efforts of the devs to write the code to reduce lag, it's been getting wo...

two screen

I don't believe there is any support for two screens in bz; at least I've never found it.

OK... I've had shattered back up for a couple weeks now, and i'm lucky if I"ve seen 5 players out there that whole time. What's the point, eh? There's too many servers, and the only ones that get any activity are the usual suspects. Who do you have to sleep with??? Ok, bad question. I guess if...

Can't play on servers with Flags - Fixed!!

A Meteorite wrote:Have you tried upgrading to SuSE 10? Just a thought, although I doubt that will help...
I finally got a DVD of Suse 10; that indeed did fix the problems. :) Looking forward to seeing you all in my sights.

Thanks for the help,

The only reason that people use 1.x is because they are too lazy to upgrade That is a rather presumptuous statement, obviously made from ignorance. People play the old versions for several reasons which have already been stated. I have spent *hours* trying to get the 2.0.x versions to allow me to p...

Yes... you should upgrade your memory. I assume your tarballs are not corrupted, right? I have had problems before with corrupted downloads. I've re-downloaded several times; always the same problem with all the 2.0.x releases A Meteorite: A program that requires 384 MB of RAM will not run without ...

It's a live CD, it needs the RAM for a RAMdisk; it won't even boot with only 256 mgs.

Have you tried upgrading to SuSE 10? Just a thought, although I doubt that will help... No, I've thought about it, but not for bz. I have a live CD for SUSE 10, but it requires 384 mgs of RAM, so I haven't been able to try it. More RAM is on the shopping list, though, espicially for Photoshop. I'm ...

Can't play on servers with Flags

I have a long standing problem that I've completely run out of ideas for. I am unable to play on a server with flags, not even CTF with no super flags. I open BZ, can find servers, choose one and click on join, but if there are any flags I only get to the "Right-click or press i to join" a...

Re: lockup with burrow

Hello All. I just installed BZ 2.0.4 and played at secretplace for a while. I had burrow flag and was turning and all of a sudden, I got the mouse cursor on screen and bz no longer responded. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the process killed. I was being chased, and could have been near a block or so...

Re: Shot limits make BZFlag less fun

I see more and more hosted maps which have shot limits for GM, L and even SB. I think this makes BZFlag a whole lot less fun. It's great to be able to camp somewhere and kill people with impunity. It also makes other people want to kill you even more and they'll try everything to kill you off. Depe...

Rabbit hunt is just plain fun, and you can learn alot from a good player when he's the bunny. My lag times don't seem to bother people as much as in other styles, either. CTF is almost exquisite when you can get a team that plays like a team and understands teamwork, but when it degenerates to basic...
