Should work - 32 bit apps will run without (much) troubles as long as they stick to the rules. Also Panther is not pure 64 bit - it includes support for 64 bit if your hardware (G5) allows. This support will come even in 10.2 (Jaguar) with 10.2.7.
Using real cryptographic hashes like SHA160 or MD5 would be even better, remember the XBox fiasko MS faced when then found out the hard way that TEA (Tiny Encryption Algorithm) isn't very suited for hashes.
