Buried tanks in bzflag 2.0.13 in Debian Sid
I have some problems with the bzflag client 2.0.13.20080902-DEVEL-linux-gnu-SDL in Debian unstable. It looks like all tanks and flags are burrowed halfway under the ground, and sometimes I can look through horizontal surfaces from below. I should probably file a bug-report to Debian instead of compl...

I compiled bzflag trunk on debian unstable.
I just compiled bzflag 2.99 on debian unstable. The following commands will only work if your username is niels. cd /home/niels/local/src svn co https://bzflag.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/bzflag/trunk/bzflag bzflag cd /home/niels/local/src/bzflag/src/other/ares && aclocal && autohead...

Is there a server setting that makes all SW users invisible on the radar? That would (almost) allow wabbit to implement his second idea in the following way: 1) Make all SW users invisible on the radar. 2) Make the SW radius very short. If the SW range is short enough then I don't think that these s...

It is possible that your internet connection is unstable and that you temporarily lose connection to the internet. (I have this problem at home) Next time everyone goes [NR], try to exit bzflag and open a random webpage in a internet explorer. If internet explorer complaints that it cannot access th...

Not that I approve much of players working together when they aren't on the same team in general. But strategically you will be better off if a camper is removed. If another player has a good chance of killing a camper with their flag and you don't, then the answer is obvious. Hmm.. in badgerking t...

That sounds supercool. Perhaps you can use embedded perl. gnalle@quit:~/Desktop$ dpkg -l | grep embperl ii libembperl-perl 2.2.0-3 A system for building dynamic websites with Perl gnalle@quit:~/Desktop$ cat bzflag_test [- @values = (20,20,30,40); $platform_height =$values[ rand @values ]; -] box pos...

And I must disagree with your argument that Bloodbath is not a camping map. In my experience, the whole strategy of the map is based off of camping in some shape or form. Nobody goes to the middle of the map and starts fighting like they would on a GU map. The whole point of the map is to find a fl...

Plug-in idea: Auto-drop-own-flag-whenever-close-to-own-base
How about a plugin that caused me to automatically drop my own team flag as soon as I was close to my own base? I don't know whether the flag should just be dropped or if the plugin should somehow invoke flag-reset. This would solve the problem of a newbie on the Pillbox server picking up his own te...

Thank you all for the comments Are these tips for a public server, or for a league match with 2-4 players per side? The public games are on a larger map and potentially have a lot more players involved than the smaller match-sized map. I have only played public servers with 5-10 players on each team...

But I still think I will wait for some great masters to show up and comment here in the forum.

Pill box tactics
Here is how I try to play pill-box. Please help me correct my tactics: A team should always have one tank defending the square containing it's team base. Otherwise it is too easy for the opponents to spawn and steal the flag. So if my base is undefended, I'll go and defend. This is especially import...

I am not a bzflag developer, so the following could be wrong: If I understand the AHOD pluging code correctly then it is possible to create a plugin wakes up ones in a while and count the number of tanks on each base. The plugin can also use a static variable to remember if a base has been taken in ...

Re: Idea: make poll voting mandatory
A reason for the poll should be mandatory too: /poll ban "Mac Rep" for "Being a bugger" Or something like that so that the question one is asked can show the reason for the poll. That would help a lot. At least I would vote more often if they always knew the reason for the poll....

BTW: Would it be helpful to allow wellknown registered players to play even if their IP-adress is part of a banned range? Perhaps player could be regarded as wellknown if he/she has been registered for a year. ( ...... and if the player has written over 30 forum messages :P ) EDIT: Hmm.... on the ot...

Is it possible for a plugin to detect all instances of a shot hitting a wall? In that case boinkage could (in principle) create a plugin that fired a small slowly expanding world weapon SW whenever a bullet hit a wall. I think this would have the effect he is asking for. Of course the SW should be f...
