Re: Vectorized Camouflage

If I understand this correctly, it's just a cool looking tank texture? If so, May I please have a set 8) I have done some PNG texture sets now in the following sizes: micro: 128x128 small: 256x256 medium: 512x512 large: 1024x1024 ultra: 2048x2048 Colour values have been sampled from the original BZ...

Re: Vectorized Camouflage

Looks pretty nice, but doesn't really seem to be blue. It looks more to me like gray-green with a bit of blue thrown around. Hi. If you're referring to the comparison pics, that's more a matter of the rendering environment and the lighting in it rather than any property of the textures. Possibly I ...

Vectorized Camouflage

I have produced a vector version of the blue tank camouflage. This is useful for its scalability and can be used to make higher resolution textures, e.g.: http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1OCOGyZ5rK2WJ1shwmKWmslRafeKDm1_thumb.png Here is the SVG markup (no doubt it could be optimized): <?xml version=...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

There is nothing that stops you from making a build of the game with changes as long as you post the full source along with any binaries. That's what open-source is all about. However, if you put in fixes for stuff like collision detection in a client based on 2.0.x, you would break compatibility w...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

If you compile a list of issues and patches for them, I offer to build a windows version for it. I'm able to compile for Windows (x86 and x64), too. But if you would rather do it instead, that's cool. I have a slight problem with the PPC version of SDL under OS X because an SDK is missing from Leop...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

First off, it's 4am, so mistakes are inevitable. Anyway, herein follows the hitzone correction as applied last February. A sphuboid (silly name) is defined as the intersection of a sphere and cuboid, as pictured here: http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1z6NqVq3rDR7i6sVHqrQcCQM56ujC0_thumb.png These are...

"stuff " doesn't get done unless people do it. Notice that he said that some of it MAY have been addressed, not that it magically was. Saying some stuff in IRC is great, but don't expect that to be a complete or detailed bug report that people will just jump on. You Could always submit a patch, or ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

Again, I ask that you test those "bugs" in version 2.99.x (svn trunk development code). Some of them may have been addressed already. *sigh* This is starting to get me irritated now. Oh well, time to reboot and grab the SVN code.. Ok, I've downloaded the very latest SVN 2.99.x and - quelle surprise...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

About bugs and side effects with configuration values: My suggestion remains: If you feel that the bzflag client allows ranges for configuration values that you think are "inappropriate" because they have an impact on the playability of the game, discuss this with the developers of the game and see...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

Ok, I think we're heading in a positive direction. The config editor and config documentation ideas sound extremely good. This thread now seems to be about fairness in general. And a few different sources of unfairness are being discussed together. So let's summarize them. (1) Config files. Already ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

I'm not sure why a closed-source binary client-authentication plug-in would be such a problem. Could you tell me briefly why it would be so bad? . Though a closed source client authentication plug-in conforms to the LGPL, if it is a plug-in, and therefor a dynamically loaded library, that library c...

You'd be lucky to find anyone with the necessary skillset and motivation in the tiny BZFlag community. I'm not saying they don't exist. But they're not likely to. And you're going to find someone with the skillset and motivation to write this in the first place? I have the skillset. I had the motiv...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

And no, closed-source won't solve the problems you are listing. A client could be modified to just send the information from your closed-source binary. It would be trivial and it would take more effort to implement the system than it would take to get around it. That's massively underestimating the...

FS and smooth, one doesnt need to adjust fps to do the corner jump. I can do it two times out of three with 60 fps. There are lots of people out there whose computers just dont produce more fps or who like to play with lower fps for various reasons. Implying that someone is "hacking" when you see h...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

Regarding the editing of configs. Similar situations arise in other games. In some other games some config settings are considered illegal in competitive play. For example, from a thread elsewhere: http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/forums/thread/358333/ Is any of these config Illegal? Am I missing any legal...

Re: Team players?

Alas, things are not simple. Some matches will be relatively straightforward but others... e.g.: (1) Two players join by accident and play for a few seconds. Then one leaves. (2) Multiple substitutions. (3) One player goes nr and another joins. And so on. With lots of players, pauses, subs etc., it ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

It's an unequal game because you are doing things outside the standard limits of the game, which is the GUI. You are limiting the effect of true skills of common players by that which is only achieved by knowledge of long time players who manipulate the config file to maximum. What I am asking for ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

The problem is that of a culture that suspects cheating instead of just normal network anomalies. The use of these exclamations encourages others to do likewise and in the end, a culture of suspicion reigns. With respect, I feel that this is skirting around the issue. The root cause is that many pe...

Please note: I have found a bug that can cause the effective hitzone
to vary (depends on framerate, affects hittability[1]). Further details:

Re: hit zone bug

Hi all, snick thinks he found a bug in 2.x with the hit check depending on the fps used. He created a map, added a world weapon firing shots to a bouncing tank. Shot height was 1.57m, tank height 2.07m (snick said that to me): Hi. I rather hope I said 2.05m. But that's a minor quibble. 0.02m is nei...

Nice of you to share that with us. I compiled a client with it and my tank did not really show up as a circle on the radar. Somehow a cross between circle and square, I have to play with it some more and see what's up. Anyways, good job. :) You may be seeing the height box. Try jumping and see if t...

Re: An Explanation of Hitzones

Hm nice one snick! Thanks. A couple of things to add. Firstly, I've been asked to share my code for displaying the hitzone discs[1] in bzflag. After all, squares are instrinsically bad (they have pointy bits that could take an eye out) and circles are nice[2]. The code follows and I've attached a p...
