When I played xpilot I used a small perl script to query the servers for player names. It would be easy to rewrite the script ping instead of asking for player names.

Perhaps the faq could mention that all mines are unwanted in the game. This goes for invisible mines as well as visible mines. First time I read the faq I was a little confused about this point.

This has been discussed many times (See the faq). Personally I really like the gameplay that you get from not being able to strafe. If I wanted strafing I would play quake instaed of bzflag :)

The Flag Catcher flag combines TH ief with ID entify flags... You can see what a flag is that you are pointing at, even if it is far away, and if it is one you want, then you shoot at that flag and you get it. Even without ID entify, the flag catcher could end up being effective in capture the flag...

I like the idea, but how about adding a bit of randomness. the server could keep track of a set of "vanished flags", and whenever a flag disappeared the server could choose a "vanished flag" at random and add it to the game.

Personally, if I get kicked for teamkilling > x% (happened once so far), it's just mistakes - the guy getting in my way, being too close, forgetting what color I am, I just figure my bad and get back on.
