This probably isn't it (the radar issue baffles me), but on my GeForce2 MX I got pretty bad framerate when I turned quality up to experimental (and maybe high) unless I also turned off smoothing. Try disabling smoothing and see if that helps.

Wait.. that doesn't make sense. Why can you be blown up by your own bullet when the shot speed is set at a lower number than your tankspeed and you're traveling forward, if the tankspeed is added to the shotspeed?

Bullets can't curve. The only inertia-related effect you're going to see is shots moving at an upward or downward angle when you're in mid air. Bullets will never be pulled down by gravity, nor will they keep horizontal velocity - as in, if you are moving in air at an angle perpendicular to the dire...

Chaos theory and entropy are unrelated concepts. Entropy occurs in both chaotic and non-chaotic systems, and is usually measured by non-chaotic means (e.g. Gibbs Free Energy). Ok, you caught me with my intellectual pants down. I guess I was referring more towards entropy, because the tendency for p...

Common sense: if you see a poll to set an unreasonable value, vote against it. If something's already set to an unreasonable value, start a poll to set it back. /poll works both directions, and it only works when a fair number of people want the changes to occur...initiating a poll doesn't automati...

I'd go with _friction. One of my favorite things to do on a map is turn it into a skating rink of death, by adding snow and mirror effects, then setting friction between 1.5-6.0 and increasing tank speed.

That's a great idea - allow the change, but revert it to the server owner's original settings after a designated period of time. Still, by default, I don't think the server should accept polls on variables, or at least not easily (require a lot of registered users and a high percentage). Is there cu...

Ok, similar problem. I'm helping my friend put bz 2.0 on his Suse machine. I created symbolic links for crypto and ssl. Curl already appears to be there, but it's supplied by a different package, namely "compat-curl2-7.11.0-4.1". I installed bz using --nodeps, but when I run it, I get "bzflag: error...

90% of the time, when the game runs slow, it is because BZflag is using software rendering instead of hardware acceleration. Go to a terminal emulator from within X and type "glxgears" - if you do not see a window pop up with animated gears moving quickly, then it's not an issue with BZ but with the...

I really think people are taking the ad comment way too far. It was a joke and a hypothetical. Unless it's spamming the public listserver, it doesn't affect me anyway. Why don't we just let him run his server and see what happens?

Heck, I may even stop in sometime.

Add in the bzfs commandline the option "-password mypass", then connect, and type "/password mypass". You should see "You are now an administrator". Type "/set someoption somevalue", and "/set" alone to see the possible variables. For weather, there's a whole section prefixed with "_rain". "/set _ra...

Well that depends, rpg. Either the person who drops them could be made immune to their effects, or once you drive a single loop around a person you move either inward or outward so you don't cross your own path. There's a lot of tweaking to be done either way.

I don't care much for the countdown to fiery death idea, but trailing mines would be cool, if a mine would drop automatically and disappear when a certain number of new mines are dropped. You would then want to encircle an enemy in a tight radius. Self destruction is also a neat idea if the blast ra...

I would recommend playing on "ducati" servers, that don't allow jumping and have a low shot limit. This forces you to learn to dodge bullets and go on a frontal assault. I learned how to fight on Hepcat's pillbox server.

Okay this is really starting to tick me off. I can't compile from CVS because my automake/autoconf tools are a wreck - I can't tell if they're installed or not, or where to find the most recent version, or even if I want the most recent version because I don't know what BZ needs. Whether or not I ha...

What's the usual lag for LAN?

I'm used to playing LAN games on my school's linux network. Normally the lag is in the single digits. Today I tried a LAN game on my home network with 2.0.0 instead of 1.10.8, and the lag was really no better than an internet connection. It was above "150 +- 20ms" or so. Is this normal on slower LAN...

Yeah, you probably want a dual-boot machine. You'd choose which operating system you want to use at startup. Almost any distro you install will come with a bootloader like LILO or GRUB.

RPM dependencies needed

I'm trying to install the 2.0 rpm on my Mandrake Community 10.1 system. 1.10.8 works without a problem, but this one apparently has dependencies on packages that I don't have installed. rpm -i bzflag-2.0.0.20050121-0.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libcrypto.so.2 is needed by bzflag-2.0.0.20050...

I like this new setting. While I haven't put it to the test yet, I like the idea that once I spiral my way inward to a GM holder, I know what to do. I never was that great at taking GM down; I could only dodge. The question in my mind is should wings be able to trump GM. But given the number of vari...
