Ah, I was trying to be too clever. You're right that this works. I had created a soft link to the executable and was trying to run that, which apparently doesn't work.
BTW, "-view anaglyph" gives you a 3D perspective on the action if you are wearing a pair of 3D glasses. Kind of cool.
