Momentum question
If I get the momentum flag, it is as if I have increased mass when I travel in the x, y directions. Should it not also apply to the vertical? My jumps should have slower acceleration, and then my momentum should carry me upwards a bit. This might seem like a niggle, but my intuition is bothered by t...

Score format
I've noticed that the column distances in my score display are much larger than they need to be; on some servers (with lots of players), the score covers about 60% horizontally and 80% vertically of the viewfield. I probably did change to a new font, as suggested on one of these lists, but I don't t...

Bullet them?
What do you mean by "the asterisk is used to bullet them?" Just to typographically set them off? And does the asterisk color mean anything? It seems odd to put asterisks in when the letters/servers are already on different lines. If I were designing this sort of thing, I might have made th...

OK, these might be "Jumping", "Flags", "Rico", or something, "Free for all", "Rabbit hunt", or something else - does anyone know, or is it to remain guesswork? And what about the asterisk? And, just as importantly, these letters and asterisk show up ...

* J F R, and color - what are these?
Using the new 2.0.4, the server list has some new features; before each
server is "* J F R", and the server names appear in different colors.
What do these things mean?

Could we do something about Machine Gun?
Machine Gun seems the most useless of all flags, even more useless than Useless - unless it's supposed to be a negative flag, but it isn't, as you can drop it. The range is too short to be of any effect whatever in any case when I've ever had the flag. Perhaps there is a server variable to set the r...

Color map
This is a simple V2 map that uses distances from 3 points to determine color of map objects. The three points are where red, blue, green are maxed out, and are around an equilateral triangle. I've attached a screenshot, though of a similar map with lots more blocks, so that you can see the color gra...

Well, they should move
I don't mean static objects, I mean saucers that move about, so that you have to lead them appropriately. I suppose some could sit still. But they have little to do with the map, the server could create them and destroy them on any map that is running with only one player.

A BZFlag Ghost Story
A month or so ago MadCity appeared on a server, and as it is one of my all-time favorites I'd often go to it, even when no one was playing, hoping to attract players. It could often be a bit of a wait. One late evening I was alone on that server, driving in the open area on the south end of the map....

Loneliness
Sometimes it seems to me that the maps with active players aren't what I want to play on, so I'll go to a good map with nobody on it and wait for players. This can take a while. Awhile ago I suggested 'saucers' (like in the original Battlezone) that give you points when you hit them; the idea was di...

No, not that
I didn't mean that this would apply when you picked up a flag (either good or bad); but rather, you could send a message like "/Badflag RC" (if RC is reverse controls, I'm not sure) and you would then have that flag, even if there weren't one on the map anywhere close. Just as you can volu...

Choosing bad flags
I suggested something like this back a while: the idea that you should be able to voluntarily acquire a bad flag (and then be able to drop it at any time). Back then I saidI wanted this to practice playing with bad flags, but it'd also be good to be able to lure attackers in ("Aha! He's got Bli...

Radar masquerade
It'd be interesting to have a sort of inverse of the Masquerade flag,
one that means that you visually appear as your true color, but
you show up on radar as a member of each player's team.

Hunter color
Normally playing as Purple, I find it a little odd to be de-facto red team when playing rabbit hunt. It would be great to be able to set this color, either at the server (for everyone), or at the client (so, for instance, I might see everyone as purple, whereas someone who normally plays Green would...

Rabbit team?
I've been playing rabbit hunt on one of LouMan's maps (islands), and after a while it can become a little repetative (this isn't a function of the map, mainly the large numbers of players who make the rabbit's life fairly short on average). It might be a nice modification to allow players to join &q...

Caching textures
A number of my favorite maps take a while to load, as they reference textures (e.g. at trepan.bzflag.org). It'd be nice if these were cached so that I didn't have to wait for them each time - which is especially annoying when I have to try to join a second time, for example when my intended team is ...

Optional bad flags
I got a Blindness flag the other day, and enjoyed trying to play just with radar. And I've found Bouncy to be useful at times (it seems to me that the jumps aren't full jumps, but I could be wrong). What I'd like is the option to grab a bad flag at will, to practice or just even the odds if I'm play...

Physics of objects, other ideas
The new meshes are great for adding visual appeal, but for things like terrain they have a problem - you can't drive on them very smoothly (fixing this might make maps much more playable). So I've been thinking about how to use the new power in the map files in ways that would improve play, and a fe...

BZFlag Club
For a few weeks I've been running an after-school BZFlag Club at my son's school (Mystic Middle School in CT - he's in 5th grade). This is a brief report on the experience so far. It's great to run a server in a computer lab (basically a big classroom with lots of PCs) and have the kids in one room;...

This is a great map; I've been on it several times today, hoping someone else would show up, but so far, nobody has. I can't understand it: why is everyone at SecretPlace playing SpiralZone when this is running? (Sorry, that's probably part of a bigger point I'm confused about, trying to figure out ...

These are .png files, which should be viewable on most platforms. You might have better luck downloading them to files on your machine, then trying to open them locally. Contest CTF map ("BZ Pharoah")
To the last map contest I also submitted a Capture The Flag map, which has I think an interesting novel twist; see the description below, and take a look at the screen shot. This is my second (and therefore last) map for this contest, a Capture-The-Flag map for two teams. The key idea in this map is...
