If its easy to define active, why is it hard to define inactive? Because nobody plays 24 hours a day - everybody is "inactive" from time to time. Do you want to punish everybody for being inactive while sleeping? I imagine not. Turning it upside down: You want to call a team active foreve...

I tend to agree with longhair on this. If you got teams a, b, c, d. And you reward teams a and b for benig ative, how does this differ from punishing teams c and d for being inactive? The end result is the same: The active teams will have more points than the inactive ones. You might even say, the i...

How teams are run, is not something that the league should decide. If players dont like the rules set by their leader, they can either try to change them or find anohter team. I see no reason that the league should do "micro-management" for everything in the league. After all, even if we h...

I'm up for it. I was already thinking about what feature that would be nice for such a plugin. Depending on the decision of cap-limit / matchtime, the plugin could "help" wth this too.

This can be extended by adding ways for external systems to communicate with GPS. E.g. A webinterface, where authenticated users can chat with players in-game. IRC and instant messaging systems, such as ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, etc. However, this is a secondary goal. However, it introduces alot of issues I...

My idea is to keep GPS as basic as possible, so only vital features are implemented, to see if it is going to be used. The GPS' channels is as basic as they can be for now, but I plan to add more (channel) features later on. For now, I need to finished what I've got, and see if its going to be used....

GPS!

sussi, i also realized that problem, so i wanted to try to solve this. As you, I see the communication as essential to improve this. My idea is to make an in-game cross-server communication system (kinda like irc), and i've begun developing it. I have just gotten a working prototype working, but it ...

That's actually a good point you're making there, but... What would stop a totally hopeless team to forfeit when the score is 0:1 when playing against a much better team? A rule saying that "you can't forfeit until opponent has at least an X point lead" could prevent this - but then the s...

Im pretty much outnumbered on this, but I've voted against cap limit. Because I also hold "keep it simple" dearly. My reason is pretty simple. If we allow teams to forfeit, then let them use it when they feel they want to. Then there would be no need to enforce a "mandatory" forf...

Here's a thought: make a web page that compiles information from all the leagues, and gives an overall view of how things are going. I'd really like to see information about each individual player's affiliation, and their won/lost matches. This would obviously take some serious PHP/MYSQL hacking, b...

The problem isnt how to deal with cheaters. Its just very hard to detect them. The server trusths the client way too much and alot of calculations are done at each client - and the server belives the data coming from clients is good. And as BZFlag is opensource, anyone can with little effort change ...

Downside: Inactive players on a team can overly influence its rating. A team can keep a permanently high rating by having a few very highly rated inactive players whilst they lose every single match. Yep. Its pretty much the same as now. So the solution to this could be activity-factor or something...

Using Player-based ELO to determine team elo score

I'll try to describe another way to calculate team scores. The idea is to rate every player and let team score depends on this. Let me try to make it not-so-long :). (For you that knows how my old ladder worked, this is basically the same) The team elo-score will be the average of the members elo-sc...

If we need to have the teamscore to change quicker for new teams, why not change the K-Factor . It states: If the K-factor coefficient is set too large, there will be too much sensitivity to winning, losing or drawing, in terms of the large number of points exchanged. Too low a K-value, and the sens...

Changing players behaviour is a challenge of its own. And will only work if players want to change. One mean is to reward these players somehow, showing that the league appriciate that they value new players over old regulars. Perhaps giving them a dummy-symbol for each player that was mentored :) h...

The purpose and problems of teamscores

Ok, this will probably be abit hard for me to get acrossed, but bear with me. When I read peoples suggestions and problems toward the teamscores (including my own activity factor) it seems like people have different expectations for what teamscore means. I see two different purposes: Teamscores is s...

Tokimi made interesting read . Not that I agree with it in full deatils, but he got alot of good points. Thanks for sharing tokimi. While reading it I got an idea. So here is my few cents.
