This actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. California would like grey, please - our grey goo will spread all over the map (if you don't get it, look at the wikipedia entry).

Lan56: -q does not have anything to do with the list server, it makes the server not respond to query pings, which are used for locating servers on lans. To clarify, there are two ways the client locates servers. One is retrieving the server list. The other is a UDP broadcast ping, which will locate...

1.10.6/Win32 If it's an earlier win95, you'll need the OpenGL and Winsock2 service packs that Microsoft released, details are in the BZFlag readme for windows ( README.win32.html ), which is installed by the bzflag installer. Also be sure you get decent video drivers, if you've got a junk card in t...

To your original question, bzfs can be compiled alone by using the --disable-client argument to configure, e.g.

./autogen.sh
./configure --disable-client
make && make install

should build and install the server only.

If you get BZFlag from CVS, there is a README.MINGW32 file in the root. Read it, and go to http://mingw.org and get MinGW32 and the MSYS DTK, bzflag will build fine if you follow the directions. If you have questions which are not answered in README.MINGW32 (almost all of them should be), ask on #bz...

Rereading your original problem, I'm not that surprised... What exactly does it output to the console? What you said "cannot load texture: 1" does not seem reasonable...if it's "cannot load texture: {1}" that would imply that it's searching for a texture without a name, and requi...

Patlabor221: on redhat at least, the textures are IN /usr/local/share/games/bzflag/ (e.g. blue_bolt is /usr/local/share/games/bzflag/blue_bolt.png), there is no data directory. Saturos: create "alternate" as a subdirectory, and extract the textures there, so if the textures are in /usr/sha...

All messages are relayed through the server. Server commands (messages beginning with /, including /identify, /setpass, etc.) stop there, and are not forwarded, so you don't have to worry about your password being sent to everyone, as the server will not relay them. In 1.10.x+, no other messages sho...

'twould be nice if medium used basic linear or nearest texturing; I did some tests about a year ago, and on the TNT I got 50 fps sans textures, 30 on either linear or nearest, but <10 with linear/mipmap/linear. Obsoleting the sweet spot would suck :)...and the differences between low and medium with...

I've a GeForce3 in my main computer, but play on (alternately) a TNT2 and a Radeon 7000 more often. Use high (well, experimental as of yesterday) quality, linear/mipmap/linear (until yesterday) on the GF3, medium, nearest on TNT2 & Radeon, because no textures is ugly and good textures are unplay...
