The names in my post are ones from one of the images (the fourth, I think) in the original post in this thread.JeffM2501 wrote:I actually don't see any shots with bad names, or those mentioned.
where was the ones with those names? or has someone replaced them already?

I'm not entirely certain that, in a forum like wikipedia where people know very little about the game, that having names like Loser! and Ivanna Fookya on the screen cap really is casting us in our best light. Does it really matter if it casts 'us in our best light'? After all, it isnt an ad for the...

no you can not do it, no there are no plans to do it. It's one hit to kill, per Tim. That is one of the rules that makes bzflag, be bzflag. I agree, there are lots of things that could be added to BZ that would create a much more robust playing experience... but as has been said before, part of the...

I've seen all kinds of boxy strategies proposed, but, I think they all seem to lack a few things: 1. Balance -- I think a mix of snipers, counter-snipers, and infiltrators is the only way to go. 3 tanks with lasers, 1 with GM, and another 4 or 5 putting intense pressure on the enemy fort with CL, ST...

I agree that this doesn't make a lot of sense and is unrealistic. The way real life works and has always worked is that once the bullet is on its way, the deed is done. As we used to say in the Army, once fired, chooses no sides. Every aspect of the game has balance, is a trade-off, and people often...

the eventual goal is to have a game that knows it's the first time you have played and asks if you wish to do the tutorials for each game type before you join real servers. I have done a lot of GUI work in the past and have done a couple of projects where I incorporated user levels... in the option...

I think that BZ should come with a tutorial that you would download together with the actual game (like pretty much any other game you would play). Since you can play locally, I can't imagine that would be too hard to do. Doh! I hadn't really even thought about this... Since the client software alr...

i know what your point of view is, but to be able to do this, it would either require redoing some of the setup of the server list, or redoing the client so that it would put some servers on the top. anyway, it would require some kind of special/extra work for the devs/webadministrators to make thi...

adding bots or moding the server to make it apear at the top of the list is not an acceptable behavor. There are lots of behaviors that, when done secretly and deceptively to manipulate others are unacceptable. And yet, when those same things are done openly, transparently, and in plain view of the...

Inserting servers at the top of the list
One of the challenges I have found in administering Boxy is that there is a steady flow of newbies coming in, and TKing... Since I want to encourage newbies and not scare them off of BZ, I try to send them a couple of messages getting them pointed in the right direction; And all the while I am usual...

And further, this could be server-side, as some servers seem to stall between spawns more than others, so... 1. Which servers/maps have you had trouble on, or does it happen on all of them. 2. Are you using your username and password from here to log in as a registered user? if so... 2a. Does the &q...

Novel uses for SW
Hey, I was wondering if anyone has ever considered the use of world weapons, like SW, for changing the size and shape of the map. For instance, imagine a map that had SW world weapons in each corner, with the radius of each set so that they cover most of the map... of course, here's the catch: the s...

A couple of questions: 1. Has there been a change in the way Geno works, either globally, or at least on Boxy? If there are more than say 7 or 8 players on a team, it is now quite common for at least one player to survive their team being genoed. I keep an eye on lag, and that doesn't seem to accoun...

I agree, I have been losing flags every once in a while too... It started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, it's very rare, maybe has happened 3 or 4 times in the last few weeks... and these are not shot-limited, or when there's thieves. There seems to be no connection to firing for me, I ...

Everybody has turned off shadows anyways, no? I find that setting shadows to stencil doesn't cost much in performance, whereas stipple really burns up my limited graphics card. So I just leave it on stencil. I haven't seen many situations where shadows help much. Lighting is a diferent story...

Suggesting a consensus for unbalanced teams in CTF
This may have already been tackled in the past, but I'd like to start a discussion on imbalanced teams. Lately, I have seen a lot of teams capping in CTF when they are up by a large margin. When you call them on it, the repsonse is usually "show me the rule that says we can't". I'd like to...

Just few thoughts... 1. I agree with others, that BZ works the main CPU pretty hard even if you have a graphics card... On my HP laptop with an ATI card, my CPU still tuns at 100% while playing, and that heavy usage does affect your CPU's ability to interact with the network card. 2. I am not sure h...

Re: The greenhorn asks...
What is geno and what is the flag notation? :?: "Geno" is shorthand for the Genocide Flag. It is simply "G" on the scoreboard display. If you have the geno flag, then when you hit someone, everyone on that team dies. A pretty neat thing when you hit an enemy tank... and really a...
