Re: "command" key issue with newer versions of BzFlag OSX

mrbean, what you are talking about is a function of SDL 1.2, which we haven't used since our 2.4.2 release. We currently use SDL 2 for our official releases, which doesn't function that way. I wouldn't count on this being available in the future, although I want to look at seeing if we can allow the...

I'm sorry, that one was my fault. Please try this build instead, and let me know if the issue has been fixed: https://download.bzflag.org/bzflag/osx/ ... -macOS.zip

Re: The Grand Castles Project

I assume the textures/colors are placeholders or at least there will be more contrast in the final version.

Looks interesting so far. Just remember that high complexity does not always equate to a better user experience.

Re: BZAdmin

It says bzadmin because that is the name of the tool, not because the person using it is necessarily an administrator. It is there to indicate that the person is using a text client and is not privy to all information and features that are available to the full client.

Re: BZFlag Embedded Port

Are you trying to run it from the graphical desktop? If so, boot into the command prompt and try running from there. SDL 2 has issues trying to support both X11 and the native video output at the same time. Make sure you also allocated enough video RAM as the README states. Also, assuming you follow...

Did configure say that it found <SDL2/SDL.h> or not? Maybe do a make distclean, re-run configure, and post the entire output of configure and make here so we can check it out. Thanks.

alexdotz, please give this build a try and tell me if the issue has been resolved. If you previously used the workaround I suggested, please try moving your configuration file to a temporary location first to reproduce a first launch. https://download.bzflag.org/bzflag/osx/2.4.11/BZFlag-2.4.11-20170...

Re: Won't open

Yes, the issue is that SDL 2 reports a resolution (your scaled desktop resolution, 1680x1050) which is not a resolution your display can actually be put into. There should be plenty of other resolutions available, including your native screen resolution, if you can get the application to load. Try s...

Re: Won't open

There is a known issue with Apple retina laptops running at a "scaled" resolution. Try to set the scaling to native in your system settings under displays, then start the client and manually set the desired resolution under BZFlag's display options. It should work after that, and you can r...

Re: New Release: BZFlag 2.4.10 "This is How We Roll"

Yes, the game has always been limited to ASCII characters, and with the SDL 2 update we had to hack it somewhat so now apparently non-ASCII keys that give ASCII values when modified don't work. I'm brainstorming solutions for this, but you may want to try to build an SDL 1.2 version, continue using ...

Re: New Release: BZFlag 2.4.10 "This is How We Roll"

Now that you mentioned it, I'd like to report a strange issue. On the new version, the "?" key doesn't work in game anymore. (german/austrian keyboard) It's not a gamebreaking error and I don't mind it too much, but I thought there's no harm in pointing it out. Edit: I use the Windows ver...

Re: New functionality/plug-in request: dynMotto

What you are proposing is less functional and more complex than what we already have. If people want to communicate and arrange FMs, they can use chat for that. Using your motto is not a fundamental form of communication in this game. Also, we have a bug tracker on GitHub... please report bugs there...

Re: Leagues United New Format - Individual Rankings

Why not just have active versus inactive players and a certain threshold for activity, like we have already for teams? Sometimes the best solution is the simplest solution. Also, I'd personally prefer that the margin of score difference in a match not be a factor in the rating. Continuing to play a ...

Re: Making Even Teams

Yes, there should be an individual rating system in this game. ELO based on kills has proven to not be ideal, given the random factor of who might kill you in a chance situation and due to the workarounds people do (like signing off at certain times). The individual ELO based on league CTF play migh...

Re: Leagues United New Format - Individual Rankings

I'm trying to wrap my head around this proposal... I know NTH asked this before, but how is this different from just tracking individual performance during fm's? And if there is a significant difference, how is this idea superior to that? Do we really need a third type of match? If points are gained...

I like the general idea, although some tweaks might be necessary. It seems like we have had a breakdown of the competitive team dynamic, so transitioning to individual ratings might make some sense.

Re: Introduction of new game mode?

Although I'm personally a fan of AHOD, I fail to see how a game style that is rarely used on public servers will fare any better in the league. Also, I disagree with the assertion that having more options is universally positive, but I diverge somewhat. I am, however, in favor of considering gamepla...

Re: consolidation of teams 2.0

If my team was dissolved, I'll tell you right now I would try to reunite with the same players. It takes a long time to learn your partners' playing styles. I've matched a lot with etigah, quantum dot, and smchaha, and those matches were an investment of time and energy. We're not a dominating team,...

Re: consolidation of teams 2.0

I'm not in favor of a forced reallocation of teams if that's what you're proposing (not saying that you are... just couldn't tell). At the same time, I agree with having more balanced teams for officials, and will support those willing to make that happen. For me personally, I'd rather have a balanc...
