Thank you for stating what we have previously discussed. ...The matter on "lag" and ping times is all in the hands of the host and developers. Just a matter of time before someone forwards these ideas into action... I am not quite sure what you are getting at. Lag and ping i...

I have mixed feelings about ad hoc alliances. I think there is just something about 2-team CTF, there is more of a sense of team work, and more of a rivalry between teams. I have played on a few maps that have 2-team CTF plus rogues, and on a few 4 team CTF maps, and they are lacking something that ...

Some thoughts on Jitter in BZ

I hate to be the naysayer here, but, we really need some straight talk about network jitter that isn't based on anecdote and player frustration. A few other threads, and player comments, often identify jitter as the ultimate bane of BZ's existence. So let me throw out a couple of thoughts that are b...

Don't get me wrong, I love being able to play using the internet, but BZFlag really needs a lot of work until it is really suited for that. While I agree that future versions of BZ may benefit from more server-side processing, I don't think it will be in the direction you may be thinking. Putting m...

I have thought a LOT about the TK problem and had proposed some longer term solutions months ago... some people liked them some people didn't. I think there needs to be a more "holistic" approach to TK that takes into consideration the three causes of TK and addresses each of them by provi...

Re: thx to boxy war ...

Thanks. :) I run the "antiTeamKillKickRejoin" plugin based on antiLagkickRejoin by Theme97. It seems to work well, even with a 30 minute ban. Problem teamkillers get much bigger bans by one of my admins. As an admin on Boxy/BZFX, I can tell you it works AMAZINGLY well... when you first jo...

I think there's a lot more to contributing to a cap than simply carrying the flag part way, so I am not sure how revealing this would really be. For instance, on Boxy, if my team is running the flag back, then I usually stop whatever I am doing and help with the cap. The friendly fort needs to be cl...

There is a map-specific setting (called _shotsKeepVerticalVelocity ) to determine if shots that are fired maintain the vertical momentum of the tank after leaving the barrel... so that if you are jumping up, the shot continues to go up, and if you are falling, the shot continues dropping after leavi...

Re: Observer team talk

What if theres a way for observers to team talk, not to the observer team, but to a playing team. Instead of just talking to one person on the team. It might be useful for teams in leagues like GU, Ducti, and IN. In what way would it be helpful? It could be annoying of a spammer uses it... They alr...

A couple of thoughts: a. I am not entirely certain that most servers support much in the way of set commands. You can type "/poll set skyking_always_wins = true" but that doesn't mean that the poll, when it passes, will do anything at all. b. Polling syntax may not be what you think it is....

An interesting thought... Would require some client software work, as your client renders your view of other people's tanks, but would not require any server changes. There is a school of thought that says that the flag you have should be a bit of a secret, but as the poll showed in another thread, ...

But I have to use the nick and pass I use for this site? Yes... by "global", people mean the exact user name and password you use here. Game servers can have local, server-specific user accounts as well, but the usual practice is to have the game server look to this site as a means of pro...

I'm all for observers talking, but their talking should be either public or only to other observers. No team talk to a playing team, nor is there private messaging to the people playing. On my server, I don't needs obs tipping off the players. I agree, and this is where my objection came from. On M...

Well, my two cents have been pretty consistent, but I will repeat them here... I don't think geno works at all on Boxy. I'd propose just the opposite of what you're proposing: I'm not so sure that on most maps, observers shouldn't be muted, or, only be able to use the public channel with no private messaging at all.

I was searching for some database utilities on sourceforge.net for a consulting client I was working with. What you want to do is try different settings and see what works best for your card setup. That old card may not like some combinations of blending, and texturing. The best things to check would be depth buffer, blending, smoothing, and the texture filter. One of my two computers has a TNT and the ...

I'm a bit puzzled by your range of symptoms. my.bzflag.org does respond to ICMP ping requests, so if you can't ping the server and can't connect to it through a web browser, we probably have trouble on your end... Either with your PCs, your router, or your ISP. When you ping my.bzflag.org, does it c...

From the tiny tanks perspective the world has grown, so it seems to you that a world unit is larger, and since your traversing these new larger world units in the same time, it looks to you like your going faster. Your brain still thinks about the normal scaled world units, not that you have shrunk...

You can check this by using the "ping" command -- which shows you the transmission-time of a network-paket from your PC to a Server and back to you! In fact, the generic ping command may be a poor approximation of what your lag will be. Ping uses a very short ICMP packet, typically 32 byt...
