There is always the -a <lin> <ang> bzfs parameter which lets you specify inertia values for linear and angular movement. A good starting point is to use 2 for both values, which is enough to make it annoying :-) If you want to test: I have setup my rabbit server ducati.bzflag.org 5155 with these val...

Something like this is not allowed in the league. I want to have real teams, where a team should have a more or less stable set of players. Players can change teams of course, but not every week or on every match. This idea is just a variation of this. It would also be possible to make a single play...

The server has two idle counters, one for idling, one for pausing. They are both displayed in /idlestats if >0. Technically, a player is idle if the server has not received a message from that player, in particular the message type which is sent to update the player's position. This message is sent ...

You can have zoom in/out keys already. Add the following to your config file:
the 4 key will now zoom in, 5 will zoom out.
Code: Select all
bind 4 down "mult displayRadarRange 0.9524"
bind 5 down "mult displayRadarRange 1.05"

Yes, I am still alive :) and have been following this discussion here loosely. Lately, I haven't spent very much time on bzflag, neither playing nor reading boards etc. But as the only remaining admin of the CTF league, I guess I should at least add some comments. Generally of all what has been said...

Just to give more details: The server used to broadcast all messages to everyone. Thsi was fine because in the beginning there was no such thing as mesasges to the server (/ commands) or private messages. The were team messages, though which should probably have been selectively multicast even back ...

-density
Somewhere along the 1.10 branch, the -density option was introduced to bzfs which allows you to roughly control the number of buildings for auto-generated maps. In classic -c CTF maps, this is the size of the "city", i.e. the default value of 5 gives you a 5 x 5 grid of buildings near the ...

You might also want to check out the bots in current CVS (both v1_10branch and HEAD whcih is 1.11). They use predictive targeting now and I copied the simpel evasive code over from roger. Playing several of them on my ducati robot server is now actually somewhat challenging. But of course this bot c...

Re: Bullet Color
The bullets are now harder to see when the shooting tank is coming straight at you. The bullets blend in with the tank that shoots them. Can you be more specific on this one? bamf (or was it someone else?) also complained about this. But AFAIK nothing has really changed in the rendering of shots. O...

bzflag does not hide the mouse and IMHO it is usefulto see the mouse pointer, at least this holds true for mouse steering, mayeb it should hide the mosue when using keyboard steering? There is one other thing: bzflag has a option called 'fakecursor' to draw its own software mouse cursor. In that cas...

Do the bots use Roger? If not, could there please be an option to let it be this way? No, they don't, Roger and the bots do not share any code. Imagine roger as someone taking your controls whereas the robots control their own motion directly. From a player perspective, there is no difference, but ...

Re: spawns
The first reaction was negative, because people spawned too far from the action, or too close. For example, sometimes the other team was going with my flag towards their base, and I spawned near my base [...] I vote for this spawning, I'm in favour! :) Actually, the current version is now a little ...

1.10 and Spawning
As most of you probably know by now, the code for picking the location for respawning has moved from the client (as in 1.7) to the server (in 1.10). This has some disadvantages and some advantages. In 1.10.0 and 1.10.2 the server picks the spot in a purely random fashion, which has some problems. On...

And it all seems to have disappeared into cyberland. When I open Bzflag I still have version 1.7G2. What did I do wrong? I never used make install before, but at least on my sid debian system it defaults to install it in /usr/local, so it won't touch the debian installed stuff at all and can coexis...

Just here to clarify a few points: The 1.10 spawning is purely random, so I see that this can be a problem especially in CTF. We ned to improve this in the future, but I don't think there will be a quick solution. The double respawns that was talked about was a bug. It should be gone with 1.10.2 (be...
