Re: "Demystifying Lag" not accurate

So you switch from talking about an 8-core CPU to a crappy netbook CPU with 2 cores to suit your argument? Nice. The atom is only one example of mult-core CPUs, so definitely not "most". The extrem switch from a workstation to a netbook was the most obvious example I was able to think of,...

Re: "Demystifying Lag" not accurate

Well, would you say a 1 year old workstation is worse than a brand new netbook? Or from laptop with a "real graphics card" to netbook? Or from a laptop with "real graphics card" to a laptop with a chipset graphic (most likely Intel)? There is definitely a switch in progress. Rega...

blast you forget that newer hardware is not equal to better. More cores are often counter-productive.

Re: "Demystifying Lag" not accurate

No you are correct they are essentially measuring the same thing -- but the point is your jitter can be steady or even IT can fluctuate. It's possible to have a steady jitter which is bad, and then its also possible to have a fluctuating jitter, which is an essentially fluctuating lag latency. No, ...

Re: How to make huge map small?

There are different optimisation ways and some things good for one optimisation task are bad for the other one. If you want more performance and a nicer look: • merge some bigger objects but make sure the structures you produce are not "too big" in the world, meaning you'd like to see almo...

Re: don't let BZFlag die

<-a 0 0> can probably be achieved by setting the _inertiaAngular and _inertiaLinear variables to 0. Ah yes that works but I noticed in windowed mode my fonts show up really big (not set to auto) and the text I typed is overlapped by the radar and chat box. Font size auto renders the font totally un...

Re: don't let BZFlag die

I'd really love to see the new version comming out soon. Text finally look like standard text on my system and the lua scripts look very promising in particular. Global chat and unicode support also come in very handy. There are many changes…too much to name them all. Being on all the software updat...

I love this game, am a linuxer and everything way back during the dawn of 2.4 w/ debian. Man I'm so mad; just let them do their thing but not be rude. Enough of my rantings; I've been here longer than the top 2% and demand respect  Nah, just a little respect and a free venue without free of c...

Re: Observer going [nr] after several minutes

From my understanding a stateful packet inspection (SPI) is very like to let the router drop the incoming packets. There is not much you can do because most routers don't have many settings to tune that behaviour. Turning off SPI would solve it, I bet but that is nothing I'd recommend (SPI is an imp...

ironically, if i'm not mistaken, it was louman (the best of the best) who had started this trend with his lasermania map. boxy war, two tanks, missile wars etc all came afterwards right? * LouMan's maps are mostly not playable. They are sittable and look great but that doesn't equal to great maps. ...

Re: Barons can't log onto any of mana's servers

It might depend on the protocol "Tracert" uses. IIRC it uses ICMP (the *NIX ones use UDP by default). Neo:~ ts$ traceroute -P ICMP bzf.bzflag.net traceroute to bzf.bzflag.net (84.16.249.226), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets 1 vigor.router (192.168.1.1) 0.535 ms 0.298 ms 0.263 ms 2 no-need-for...

From reading http://playcontrol.net/ewing/jibberjabber/big_behind-the-scenes_chang.html I got the impression the issue is perhaps gone to some degree. When I tested quite some time ago I remember it did not work - quite possible some of the issues are fixed now. Most of the first x86 generation Macs...

Re: Pre-Alpha OSX 10.6 Build

As far as I know the 64-bit SDL 1.3 development version is full of bugs. For instance shooting with mouse buttons only works in windowed Mode but not in fullscreen.

Better avoid the 64-Bit SDL Mac OS X version. Apple has done a bad Job with the APIs.

Re: Fullscreen on mac... how do you get out?

You may not get out of fullscreen mode. It depends on what you use.

If you're tired of fn to use the f-keys as standard function keys you can check "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" in keyboard preferences.

In the client you can cache the list of servers and play with an unregistered callsign during the downtime except you have it locally registered of course. I write unregistered callsign because global authentication won't work until connection to the list server will work again.

Re: Network issue and suggestion

BZFlag does not need much network fine-tuning, unlike the quake based games for instance. Most of the lag is caused by geographic distance and peering between providers. There is a shell script in the bzflag repository (path is /trunk/bzflag/misc/pingtimes.sh) that she could run to find out. You can...

Heh I remember I once complained to one team captain but basically got the reply that he thinks it's good. I do not think the captains should be made responsible though. In the end if someone else in their team swears then all they could do is to kick that one from their team. Not all players are eq...
