Re: "Boost" your computer performance

That only means your OS and/or your applications are bad, AFAIK. Inactive applications hardly need RAM. Most of the memory of inactive applications can be safely moved from RAM to other storage devices like a hard disk. I write most because some data of applications should not be moved (like passwor...

Re: "Boost" your computer performance

A CPU is almost always shared between several programs/threads and any CPU can only run a limited number of threads in hardware the solution used is timeslicing between threads. This means CPU time is practically always split between threads. It only counts how much resources the other opened progra...

Re: Official league match server..

I added the countdown resuming delay in a later version than 2.0.8 but I don't remember which one it was, it's controlled by a variable called _countdownResumeDelay (_countdownResumeTime in svn trunk) as I found the idea quite handy. CVS is not used by BZFlag anymore, the stuff you want is in svn v2...

Re: New MacBook Pro - "not supported on this architecture"

Strange, it should run ok. Even the PPC only binaries (2.0.2 - 2.0.8) run fine on my MP 2009.

May you try to rename your config dir and test if it starts then? Please also check if you downloaded it from the official sourceforge project page!

Re: A new idea from a newer player..

I do not think this could work. There are players that depend on good teamplay, others can inspire their team while different ones are focussing on killing and ignore flags more. 1vs1 is not a solution to these rating problems as the mates are no longer part of the equation (no teamwork possible). I...

Re: need more dpi?

I have a Logitech G5 (2nd edition, 2000dpi) and in my impression the high resolution only helps to speed up the fastest possible cursor movement. You would need to cursor moving fast enough so you can dodge incomming bullets but slow enough so you don't loose too much time while driving. The bigger ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

The rules were made because of reasons. Not everyone can be happy, thus a compromise is the target. In my opinion it is desirable to know when something questionable stands out so we can evaluate what is going on. I think people misinterpret "?" as a "you're cheating" but really ...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

I agree with lucky luke that new rules won't help. Could you explain why you think this? Is it that you feel they would not be enforced? I see these type of messages already covered by the forbid to do player harassment and public cheating accusations. I've even seen a player using racism language ...

Quoting me out of context? Your question was rather ignorant, as not everyone thinks that; thus I gave you an equally stupid answer. The context would only show you're trying to provoke and many seem to think that that admin group = qd only. And furthermore I was also trying to point out that all y...

There are very few? That's so strange, you know why? Because it seems that a handful of players just all agreed on this topic and took the time to write lengthy replies. Why would we do this if we didn't think it was more than "very few". Many can't watch their language all the time. My i...

Re: ?, thru, what? wtf? etc.

I wonder... Is it possible to gag someone so that they can only speak to mates? I see the entire complainign as problem. There are a few players who always complain and I would have banned them but there is no census because I guess people don't see the rules violated. I wouldn't want to play in a ...

Re: Unknown BZDB variable: _countdownResumeDelay

The variable is intended for use in league matches. When the countdown is paused, it will not just immediately resume the countdown but starts a little countdown to resume, e.g. "5 4 3 2 1 countdown resumed". The value of _countdownResumeDelay is the introduced delay in seconds. 0 should r...

open your config and find and add this set linedradarshots 60 you can make the number anything, but I like 60, dodge shots easily and see them well. Also, go into your in-game GUI and find the colored shots - change to ON then make them fairly large. Make your radar as big as possible. you can alwa...

MacBook Pro 17", unibody :P I wouldn't recommend those because there are a lot of reports of green lines and other artefacts in the late 2008 model when using the faster graphics solution of the 2 built-in ones. Once the graphics "power" is actually used, the problems will show up. I...

Re: Looking for the best mouse for BZflag

If you decide on this one, you might want to get one of those hard mousepads by Razer or Everglide, as they significantly increase accuracy with this mouse. I feel that the everglide ricochet mousepad severely lacks control compared to a mousepad like the steelseries experience I-2. Please notice t...

Re: Un f5-able wall?

F5ing through a wall is not because of the type of wall, it is because the client doesn't see themselves moving through the wall... because of lag. Please note it's not the same lag like shown in lagstats but a high delta t between the main loop iterations. There are different models of how physics...

Re: Lagstats in replays

ts - you're proving my point exactly. How do you "suspect a handy cheat" when the replay doesn't represent what actually happened. You can't say 1. Tank locations and shots in replays are always false. and then say 2. If a tank walks thru all shots on replay then they are cheating. I did ...

Either the replays represent what happened for they don't. If they do not then I can walk thru every bullet and no one can say anything. If the replays do represent what happened then thats where statistics can come in to play. The replays do not represent what happened exactly. If you "walk t...

Re: Lagstats in replays

So it's one of those changes that only works for 'clean players', and thus defeats the purpose and would be wasted effort. I wouldn't say it is wasted because then one could get a more accurate understanding of the influence of lag by simply looking at the different worlds (each player is in its ow...

Re: Lagstats in replays

I was well aware of what you meant but still the state is not accurate enough to know what actually happened. It is likely it never can be in this networking model. The server does not know the exact client state, it can only resemble a rough idea of what the client „saw”. Please note the bullets in...

A great trait our admins have is COMMON SENSE. Honestly you have no chance to know. Most decisions are kept secret and when a ban is issued for example it may not be announced or the exact reasons are not revealed to the public. I have a very different opinion regarding the definition of a cheat. A...

It's a game, not a publishing app... A browser is also no publishing app and good browsers have colour management. Picture viewers are also no publishing applications. Most non TN panel displays I heard of offer wide gamut. BZFlag partly needs managed colours (e.g. sky, textures) and I'm considerin...

Re: Req: Colorblind mode/mod for those of us that are RG blind.

I imagine you can also use names of colors. There is a list of colors on the wiki that you could try. Out of curiosity: Is BZFlag colour managed? Red is not equal to red in different colour spaces (e.g. SRGB versus AdobeRGB) and as consequence the colours may not look like their name would imply. F...
