First Look: "Guernica" by A Distraction

I'm not going to talk too much about it, as I want to wait for the release. Here's just a mouth watering screenshot of the map. There will be four of everything you see, so in the end I will have a radially symmetrical CTF map. What I can tell you is that this map will not be nearly as deadly as my ...

Getting Caught on Corners

I am making a map which involves me hand coding a few meshes in. This has been going well, but I've run into a commonly re-occurring problem: When driving around the corner of a mesh (where two faces are joined) it is easy to get caught and sucked into the mesh, whether I have an inside point or not...

All I know is that I have to turn the sound up to hear the shock wave when all the other sounds play at a consistent, comfortable volume. And why would shock wave have a lowered pitch in relation to distance? For the other sounds I can understand it, but with shock wave, the sound starts out near you.

Your new sounds made my day.

Edit: When the file is actually used within BZFlag, the pitch gets lower, and the sound is slowed down. Of course this is an inherent characteristic of BZFlag, but you may want to consider it.

Edit: The shock wave sound could be a bit louder.

Looks good, I you should call it... noobfest.com (Not kidding) haha, that seems like a possibility... or maybe something that wouldn't deter other people besides noobs from coming to the map. On the contrary, no one at all would play there. Experienced players don't want to deal with noobs. ...

If the mesh is working, but the position is wrong, just use the shift function to change it. I tested it with the changes Schmoe made and it still didn't work (well, one side worked), so the other 5 sides still have their vertices out of order. I would suggest drawing your points out on paper before...

Yay your posting it now. Just so everyone know me and Ahs3 have tested this together and the playability is awesome. I vote you call it "Nibbles". I'm just curious, but how does it remind you of nibbles, ducktape? Anyway the map looks nice. It seems simple, but looks challenging enough. I...

You're right, I didn't make myself very clear. I was just looking for forum stats, and not BZFlag game stats. That's too bad that there aren't any. Thanks for your help anyway though.

Forum Stats

Are there any statistics kept for number of visits to this website, topic post frequencies, and geographical areas of visiters and topic posters? If so, and they are not sensitive or secure, could someone tell me where I could find them? The farther back in time they go, the better. I looked on Stra...

It reminds me alot of "The Art of Getting Lost" except with a lot less stuff, and not as aesthetically pleasing. There are a few boxes eratically placed at the center of the map, so there could be a few possibilities for some gameplay there, but the rest of the map (about 85% of it) is ope...

If your'e worried about people getting bored, you can put up signs with directions on them at various places around the maze (ex. real directions, fake directions, clues, riddles, insults at a dead end, etc.) I think no radar would be a good idea, and lots of fog too. But people might get frustrated...

To take this and run with it, perhaps silent observing could be invisible observing. You could make this a permission that allows users in a certain usergroup to be invisible on the scoreboard (but maybe visible on /playerlist) while observing. In my experience there is a type of cheater who I will ...

The Ship You Thought Had Set Sail

What's that? That's not the Duck or Die I remember! As many of you know, the release version of my very popular "Duck or Die" map has been losing steam over the last year, so I decieded to give it a revamp that will juice it to go a little farther. Here's the rundown of the changes: -Numbe...

The first thing I noticed is how very large the map is, and this is not complemented well by the vast amount of open space in the middle area, and the base areas. Also, tanks get stuck when spawning on or driving on the bases. I'm not sure exactly why though. I like the overall design of the map. Yo...

I'm not good at making "just another <blank> map". I try to think of an idea that hasn't been done before. Then once I have the gameplay in mind, I build objects around it. Sometimes I draw the map on graph paper, just to help me envision coordinates and the like. My maps usually turn out ...

You add '-j' to the options section of your map file, so it would look like this:

Code: Select all

options
-j

Being able to delete one's post is primarily determined by the forum section settings which are set by a forum administrator. It doesn't matter if you are the last person to post if the forum section settings don't allow post deletion anyway.

He didn't do it in iBZEdit. He showed in his first post and it was mentioned other times in the thread that he used Blender to make it and then export to a .bzw file. BZEdit only supports 1.X objects, nothing cool looking, and no slopes.

ducatiwannabe, I think SirIchBeenCool meant that Soccer shouldn't have posted two threads in the Works In Progress section, which he did.

I think this map is very cool, and not cluttered at all. And maps don't have to be symmetrical every time. It plays very well, and there are many paths and places to explore. You have some nice ideas. It's a nice break from all these perfectly symmetrical CTF releases that have appeared lately. Pret...

It's a good start and it looks like it could have some great gameplay possibilities. It's a little open though, so you should add some more obstacles like pyramids and boxes more for ricochet possibilities. You could also expand the upper level and/or create more incentive to explore there. Is it go...
