"bad map design"..."shouldn't happen"...Can you really use those phrases together in a sentence like that?

Errr..I have done it.

I have. When you do, one of two things happens:

1) Your tank gets stuck and/or client freezes.

2) Shots fired in lag entire server or crash it if volleyed rapidly.

Depends on speed of PC and how quickly your loop happens. BZ is still quite effective at glitching with both Nvidia and ATI cards.

I'm a gerbil--I don't know how to change ground level. It was an old hack in days gone by and there were no wings back then--you would just see guys with 10x normal high speed driving 60 units up in the air with a tiny tank and gm. A lot of things are different now but I am sure that can be tried. A...

Ahem

Two nights ago a player was flying with Wings and firing GM. Watched him for five minutes.

It is possible that it wasn't wings he was using but had a hotkey to change "ground level"--though he changed altitude enough it looked like it might be wings.

Was very smooth and non jerky.

I think

I think one of the reasons it was not implemented is the concern about maps that crash clients by having an "endless loop" teleport. Meaning you fall through one and then back into the one you first fell through and back again...ad infinitum.

Oma was cool because he: 1 -- Was reeeal good with GM 2 -- Was not a braggart 3 -- Treated everyone the same 4 -- Always helped noobs 5-- NEVER (not once) lost his temper or put anyone down 6 -- Didn't mind getting killed and could laugh when it happened 7 -- Was a good sport and would never dominat...

Settings

It's a standard (default size) world with two ctf bases. You can use any flag mix you want--all flags are fine. I would suggest some angular momentum on shots--just a little and enough wing flaps for wings to act as "fighters". I would have no more than 4 wings. Does that help or do I have...

bloody read baron

blooody! I know the one you mean and no sorry--that was fun. The first use of a drive through building (drive under in those days). I parked with stealth in the drive under block for an hour when it first went up. All the old pros kept coming up to the block trying to see how bullets were coming thr...

Gauntlet

This is a meat grinder of a ctf which you will want wings with along with other flags. Very simple but hard to win. The key feature is the central building that has a "guantlet" to run in order to capture the flag. You can fly or oscillate your way to the enemy side but then you have to re...

My Maps

I'd be happy to get a zip of my maps but I have many that are buggy or broken as I couldn't test them and many variations so hard to know which are usable or not. A lot of the old ones are gone with a failed hard drive--so as I make new ones that work I will archive them on my gmail account and upda...

RatCorp!

It's the headquarters of the nefarious Rat Corporation. Perhaps Mr. Gerbil even has an office inside?

Made for flying and driving (you will want some flaps to reach elevations).

Good with all flags as you like. Please try it. Thanks!

Hi--yep. BIYA has a cpu and internet bandwidth challenged machine so I kept it as small as possible for him. There ya go

Consider that I have to capture the video quality of the game itself which is rendered by the game engine and then re-rendered by the capture program and finally again encoded by the editing program. Each step allows video issues to arise. Frames are jerky because I wanted to keep bandwidth low and ...

Gerbil Website Video

Howdy, I have finished the entry to my website now--less bandwidth intensive by far and I have worked around a problem in my host's servers so flash movies on it should generally work better. I will be looking for/doing two things with it in the very near future: 1) Putting up flash movies for those...

That's stuff I can use in the tutorials--thanks!

Got any other simple things like that?

Thanks Guys!

"THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" You'll also need to know the equations for parabolic movement if you want to avoid a lot of trial and error. I'm going to assume that you don't know them (otherwise you would probably have already been able to complete the map yourself with the above infor...

By-the-Way

The responses so far are exactly why I want to do a tutorial. You have several, regular players who tinker with map making yet not one has a clear, definite solution to this. If it's fuzzy for us how do you think it is for new map makers? (or old ones who haven't had time to hunt down and decode doc...
