Not just spin
Rewarding for activity is basically putting a nice spin on punishing for inactivity. I disagree on more than one level. Implementation level: Defining activity is easy; You play a match -> you're active. Defining inactivity is hard; You don't play a match you're inactive, right? Wrong! You have to ...

zongo , thanks for the feedback! The poll seems to agree with you on the importance issue. The poll is now over (I set it to 10 days), and the result indicates that, yes, match times are important to some degree (who wants to play for 2 minutes or less - or 2 hours or more?) but as long match times...

At some point, we need to have faith in the teams/players. Im sure that if some team exploits the rules to their advantage, other teams will stop matching them. If that happens, we need to reconsider the rules. Until then, I'll make go with simplicity. (After all, its hard to predict the future :))...

Yes. I would suggest 4 seasons of 3 months each, per year. Or perhaps 3 seasons, 4 months each. I don't think that it should sum up to a full year (12 months) - Summer holydays and christmas shopping is time consuming. I'd prefer 2 seasons a year; August through November, and February through May. ...

people are in different situations in real life mistake. For example, just to take the students out of this and explain their situation (we are with a lot). They might play more during the year, but wont play at all or hardly during exam periods. Indeed there should be done about the inactivity in ...

My respect to all trainers!
For the record, several teams are already doing this in a matter of sorts. Bz Inc., Untamed and SNT are all taking in newer players, with an eye toward training them up and having a lot of fun in the process. This is so cool! I decided for myself that if I ever got good at BZFlag/Ducati, I would tr...

Re: Evaluation of the diference between 15-20-30 mn matches
Method Again, I am not a coder, but I would imagine some of these things following are feasible. Sampling the cap score every 1 minute, mark only which team has what score (actual team names are irrevelent). A plugin maybe, added to proxs dub 59998 and dub 59999 should cover almost all the bases in...

This can be fixed, if scores are recorded as normalized scores, eg. as ratios, There is a slight problem with ratio when one or both teams en up with a score of 0. Special rules would have to be used in those cases. For example a 0-0 score could be treated as a 1-1 score, ration-score-wise, and an ...

Re: We want to hear from you !
The council would like to know what the most important issues are. Please tell us here! Niceness, fair play, and helping others should be high on the agenda. Matches are so much more funny, when everyone is in a good and playful (literally speaking) mood. Saying "Hi" when joining, and &qu...

Might be good for newbies
Jumping? Flags? Number of shots? If it's going to be Ducati without CTF, then this league could be valuable as a newbie league, since the main thing will be dodging skills and hitting the target. I doubt that I would play in this league once I have sufficient dodging and aiming skills to join the Du...

Match length - Importance survey - Please VOTE!
In a recent post I suggested the addition of an importance survey connected to each poll, so that we can get an indication of how important a specific topic is to people, as an addition to their preferences. The importance index should aid us in determing where we get most benefit from our efforts. ...

I fail to see why the idea of variable match times is so far fetched. It may be far fetched, it may be of no or little importance, or it may hit the right spot. I think a bigger problem is that we do not know that, and generally we do not know which changes will attract players and which changes wi...

Re: I threw 7-8 bots at hepcat by accident :-(
We've had similar problems at planet mofo- we run roger-bots on some servers and like to use autopilot, but don't like letting random ass-hats bring half a dozen bots. To deal with this, I wrote a plugin that kicks anyone who brings -solo bots. If you want, I can release it (and maybe add something...

bzflag was constructed that way because it was made 13 years ago as a LAN game before the internet was in large use. it has nothing to do with performance or bandwith ( both of which we sort of suck at ). So, in your opinion, it would be possible to design and build BZFlag with a maximum degree of ...

Does that sound like a plausable solution? I've read a few posts about cheating, and it's my impression that it's possible because of a flaw in the design of BZFlag; clients are the information source for too many elements in the game. For example, a client reports if the tank in that client was hi...

Re: Bots...
Now, would it fix the problem if bots were only a server option? As you know, I have a personal interest in the topic ;-) The idea is good, but I can't help thinking that a bots nature is to be a client. Having servers doing client stuff brings an uneasing fuzziness to the client-server model. I ca...

Also, heres a question that popped into my head while looking at Linux LiveCDs. You say theres going to be lots of stuff (p2p, email, chat....) programs besides BZFlag. Would that require us to set up each one everytime we use BZAnywhere? Not sure about you, but I think that would get a bit annoyin...
