as for number 2, yes, something other than missile distance has changed. Whether this is some ancillary effect brought upon by slower fps or lag/loss of lag in client messaging, I can not say, but GM is not as deadly as before, and it has nothing to do with distance. Yes, there was a GM bug. It's a...

One question though: how do I change how the team colors get painted? They are *way* too faint for me. I knew how to set the colors in the 1.7 versions. What about the new one? Find the config file. On Unix it's ~/.bzf/config[.hostname]. Edit it and add something like set redradar "0.8 0.0 0.0...

Looks to me like most of the FFA servers that the league site is monitoring are down, except for quol and ducati. I don't know whcih servers are popular. Maybe ask [dmp] to omintor other servers instead. Or will those servers which look dead in the ladder site be back?

A lot of the game parameters are under server control now and gravity is one of them (use /set to display them). When you have the privileges, "/set _gravity -50" gives you the ducati 1.9 settings. It is also possible to specify non-default settings on server startup (which is what I did f...

Hmm, I am pretty sure I wrote a reply to this 1 or 2 weeks ago, maybe it was a similar thread. Can you describe the problem in more detail? Which colour is wrong? What colour is it, and which would you expect it to be? 1.7g2 introduced a new colouring scheme for the console. In the options->gui opti...

There have been some major changes with respect to the internal player id andthe reconnect port. I don't remember all of the details, though.

So, does the problem persist even when player A joins first, drives around, then player B joins?

Yes, you're right. In the formula for prob, B and A must be swapped. So, let's say we have Team A with 4 players and Team B with 3 players. Let us assume further, that all players are average players with a rating of 1200. Thus for a ducati setup: RatingA = 4800/4=1200 RatingB = 3600/4=900 prob=1/(1...

The basic idea is not bad (although 50% speedup seems to be too much). However, I fear that getting the details right is the main problem here. First off, simply basing the speedup on the number of logged in players in each team might not be accurate because not all players are necessarily active (d...

I think the formulas used basically make sense. There's two parts to it: First, a rating is assigned to each team by calculating the sum of the individual ratings of the players. This is used to do the basic ELO calculation. The result is a delta value which represents the value of the capture (will...

Some UDP protocols have problems with people behind NAT. The bzflag protocol has been enhaced to get more NAT friendly. With 1.7g2 there usually shouldn onl ybe problems when two people who are behind the same NAT join at about the same time. When one player joins first, then drives around, it shoul...

That's what they say. It's also a good song because it runs for 17 minutes, so I only have to restart it once during a match 8)

I can't give you any specific advice. However, I played with some of the Linux traffix shaping/QoS features some time ago on my hom emachine (ADSLm 768/128kbit/s). I think I'm using the token bucket one (htb). I tried to give priority to ack packets and ssh while giving less to bulk traffic (for exa...

Red Baron: The respawn code does not know whether you have killed yourself or have been killed by an enemy. I guess that the person who was implying that after a suicide you respawn closer to the middle was making the assumption that the suicide happened in the corner (the tactic that [dmp] uses som...

suicide as a tactic in matches

Especially in 2 vs 2 CTF matches there are some situations where players believe it is advantageous to kill themselves. One typical situation is that a player hides his own flag in a corner and then kills himself to respawn elsewhere and hopefully rejoin the action faster. This has been used by seve...

I'm so glad so many people like CTF 2-3 years ago, no one would hardly ever think of CTF, or ducati. I think one reason for this is that formerly there was only 4 team CTF with the default CTF map, which really isn't that good IMHO. With the introduction of 2 team random map CTF the thign really go...

Without thinking too much about it, I would assume that this could lead to strange effects with lag because both players have a different view of the world. But maybe it would work ok with acceptable lag. However I actually like the ability to drive through other tanks, changing this would mean a ch...
