Re: Lag and Pocket Loss

Or, you might be downloading something. That can often cause lag, jitter, and packet loss. By the way, it's not "pocket loss", it's "packet loss".

Re: BZFlag website

BZFlag graphics don't suck, at least not in 2.99.x. Ever seen that on experimental graphics mode? It's beautiful! I wish I could have graphics that nice in 2.0.x.

Re: BZFlag models and textures

If you have BZFlag, then you already have the textures. On Linux, they'd be saved in /usr/share/bzflag/ . I have no idea what it would be on otherOSs. The 3D models are hard-coded into BZ in C++ code, so it might not be easy to import to something like Blender or Wings3D.

Wait a minute, did you write that SVG code yourself? I don't see anything saying it was made with something like Inkscape.

Re: Vectorized Camouflage

Looks pretty nice, but doesn't really seem to be blue. It looks more to me like gray-green with a bit of blue thrown around. Pretty cool, though. Looks way better than the textures the game has now IMHO.

Re: BZEditWin32 from MFC to wxWidgets?

Plus, I have my own map editor I'm making called RatBZEdit. It already uses wxPython (Python port of wxWidgets), and runs on Linux, W*****s, and I believe OS X. The only problem is that it can't edit maps yet... Well then, is it technically a map editor yet? ;) It can load and save maps, so sorta, ...

Re: BZFlag website

Usually, if people even find the homepage, they probably wont not download it. Double-negatives are a no-no ;-) EDIT: No pun intended Anyway, yeah, BZFlag could use a better website. I thought it was great until you guys make it have those weird-looking non-tankish vector images all over the main p...

What exactly would that option do? Would your shots just go straight through teammates, or would they explode on them but not kill?

Re: BZExcess Hosting - UI feedback needed

That looks pretty good, blast . I can't wait until it's functional. I assume it sends you some sort of message so you can approve or deny the hosting. The one thing I think it needs, though is the ability to submit a server configuration file. I always make .conf files along with my .bzw files when ...

Re: Client Authentication by means of a closed source plug-in

I am generally opposed to closed-source, proprietary software. If BZFlag came with closed-source plugins, it would be removed from the Fedora yum repositories. Also, I would likely stop playing BZFlag as a matter of principle.

Re: pass team-flag to player

I came up with a idea. Maybe you could pass with the flagkeeper's shots. And if you want to stop the pass, another tank should step between and get hit, like in football.. :D One thing that the developers always seem to want is to have shots kill, and do nothing else. Your idea might be possible wi...

Re: BZFlag on iPhone and iPod Touch

A phoney screenshot can be easily made with The GIMP, so a photograph of it might be a bit more like proof. Plus, that's not really BZFlag, that's BZAdmin. BZAdmin can be displayed on anything that can run an SSH client, like a PSP, iPod Touch, <insert your device here>.

"Cop" is only a term used to refer to an admin with less power than others. There is really nothing special about being a cop, often they have almost no privileges more than a normal player.

Re: Tank Tower Defense

It might be good to make the tanks able to jump just a tiny bit higher so the blue ones can get on the wall. Then you could add a bit to the meshes to make them unable to get past the walls. The red ones wouldn't be able to get there, but they could shoot the blue ones if they jumped. Then the blues...

I think that's a great idea. Often when I'm on a rabbit hunt map I'm only rabbit for about 2 seconds, and then am killed. This way I might be able to get my time as rabbit up to 4 or even 5 seconds!

I think it sounds interesting, but I think there is no need for it to be client-side. It could easily be handled with a plugin IIAC, but I never made a plugin so I'm not quite sure.

When I shoot someone, it's not because I don't like that person. It's just because he could shoot me, so it's better to end that possibility.
