Re: No sound if from source code

When you open up the client, the top row in the message box should start with a red text saying:

Code: Select all

BZFlag version: ...
The line should end with either SDL or SDL2.

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

You have quite a few maps released in the Map releases forum. For flags, you can explicitly state which you want in your conf file like so: +f V{1} +f T{5} +f SR{10} This will generate 1 High Speed, 5 Tiny and 10 Steamroller flags. They will be distributed on the map randomly, as they are not specif...

Re: Is this a cheap tactic?

Woah, old thread revival. I've played a fair bit on Bloodbath myself and, to be honest, camping won't do you much good on it, especially if you are playing against seasoned players. Awaiting at the end of the rail with Laser sounds totally reasonable. The most dominant approach towards enemy base is...

Re: Recommendations for Maps, settings etc. for a newbie old timer

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for right now. Guideance on how to build your own map(s) and configurations, or how to fetch already-existing ones?

There is no need to complicate it. Two threads exist for a reason. If someone wants their entry to be counted on both leaderboards, they can just make a post on both threads.

Re: 101

That has happened to me multiple times already, and I was left hanging in the 80s or even 90s. It is quite frustrating when it happens, but not much one can do!

By the way, you are free to post the same score result in both threads, should it be eligible for both. This one in specific is.

Default Settings Rework

The idea is to update the defaults in multiple areas of the game. Granted, many defaults all around could be perfected, but some are in a much more dire need than others. I had already created a thread on the need of the Steamroller and Machine Gun default server variables being reworked. This time,...

Re: bzwrap: Python Package

Hey, mat! Sounds sweet! Yeah, this package is meant to be very open and non-restrictive, so any type of attribute can be set, even if the attribute itself doesn't exist. I'm considering making a more strict version as well, where the creator is essentially guided on what objects they can create, wha...

bzwrap: Python Package

I made a Python package bzwrap (or bzw wrapper ) for personal use, but am sharing it in case anyone else might find it useful. It is aimed towards anyone creating maps by hand, but wanting to express themselves in a slightly smaller amount of lines or perhaps want to introduce some logic to their cr...

Re: Problem application not starting

I'm not too familiar with windows, but can you perhaps fetch some logs of what is happening when you run the app?

The client should run normally without having to change any firewall configs, the issue likely lies elsewhere.

101 EP

101 EP , or 101 Enhancement Proposal , is a thread born from the original 101 thread, following a similar base idea, but incorporating some crucial changes and limitations for the sake of fair comparison. The idea is for players to be able to post screenshots of situations where they achieved a sco...

Re: Faster Rabbits

I would be down for more team-specific limited access. One aspect I have thought of the most is a drivethrough wall, but you can only drive through it if you belong to a certain team. If a core change would be done that would allow for matters like that, it could lead to some interesting development...

Re: 101

It doesn't count on apocalypse. Too many bounties. It's not just apocalypse. Some maps are way more fast-paced than others, taking a much shorter amount of time to hit 101. As such using these screenshots as a marker and attempting to equal them in value or quality is a failed investment from the s...

Re: Ramps & Other Things

To have full control over where a team's tank spawns, use the zone object, as blast recommended. To control spawns, pass in the team parameter. This is generally specified in the bzw file. zone position 0 0 0 size 0 0 0 rotation 0 team 1 end As you might have noticed, I used the value 1 at the team ...

Re: No Bad Flags

To add on to what blast has said, flags are usually specified in the conf file. You can also specify them in the options block of the bzw file, as far as I know, but I tend to keep that aspect to the conf file. Also, relating to blast's post, I would advise using the additive approach of just adding...
