Pressing the F12 key is just a shortcut for navigating through the menu and selecting Quit. In both cases the BZFlag client sends an orderly "I am leaving" message to the server before disconnecting, so the server can't really tell which method was used.

I don't see any debug logging that is already in the texture download code, so using a debugger to follow the client would provide more information. You could also try different subsets to see if the problem is just with a specific texture.

That usually means that the "bzfs" server program can't be found. Be sure it is installed and in your PATH.
