Re: Mobile?
Our designs for better administration have been to use an HTTP connection to the server and manage it over a web interface (the current release supports HTTP connections, it's how the fastmap system works). This way you don't need an app for every platform, just a browser. The webadmin plugin just n...

Re: Mobile?
Nothing about the subject has changed, so resurrecting it will result in the same thing. It's not something we are going to do now with our current code base.

Re: Some fun/weird gameplay ideas
Yes but that has several issues.
1) the server does not accurately track client position
2) there is lag
3) players could not have any other flags
4) Players can drop flags
It would be a buggy hack at the most

Re: Some fun/weird gameplay ideas
The current game doesn't support different gravity in different areas, just the setting of it's acceleration and direction. The only other force effect is a Physics Driver that affects a tank when it hits an object, not as it moves through a volume.

Re: Some fun/weird gameplay ideas
It's a technical limitation. We only store MaxShots shots per player, and that includes those in flight. So if the reload time and shot life times added up to where you could have MORE then MaxShots alive at any one time, we'd not have anywhere to store them. So it's a bit more then a simple "b...

Re: Creative flag thinkers?
Yes, the rejected flag list is simply a list of flag ideas that we have said we will not make as part of the core game, basically they won't ever be built in and shipped with a release of the game. Since BZFlag is open source ANYONE can make any flag they want, ether via plug-in or direct code modif...

Re: Creative flag thinkers?
An "end shot" is when a client tells the server that a shot should be removed, ether by hitting someone, or just timing out. It just is there to remove the shot from other people's screens. The choice of what to do when a tank is hit by a shot is handled by each individual client(the perso...

Re: Creative flag thinkers?
The server can't prevent a tank from dying so it's not really something that can be done with a custom flag. The best it could do would be to give it a fresh shield flag on every hit, but that has timing problems.

Re: Grenade flag release - as seen on Apocalypse
Yeah a derivative work is just it you take one of our files and modify it into your project. If you replace all the code with your own then it isn't derived. If you add your own code based on what we have done but not copy and paste then that code is not derived. Nothing in bzflag is patented so tha...

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
I wish blast would put about 5 bots in his map so that it would always show up NEAR THE TOP OF THE LIST (hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge). Maybe people would play there more often if they saw it listed on the first page. That would be against our usage policy for the list server. Bots are not ...

Re: Grenade flag release - as seen on Apocalypse
Just 2 notes
1) if this was derived in any way from any of our samples then the license must be LGPL.
2) People should know that this plug-in can not work on windows due to the use of non-API functions.

The maintainer owns the copyright on the game. Getting another maintainer would be basically forking the project.

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
Why? because of various problems with it. 2) Not maintained. No game updates..or very poor ones...graphics really are stuck in the 90's. 7) the coders don't understand how to program for Windows. Bzflag optimal game play is in Linux. #2 I recommend you talk to the maintainer, we have certainly trie...

there is not enough info there to tell anything. Can you please list the exact issues you are having with as much detail as possible, including your OS, computer type, Video Card, lag time, and common Frames per Second. The MD5 thing was probably just us removing an out of date map cache, it happens...

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
We have denied Geno like flags for the reasons you specify, because Geno was a bad idea. I still doubt that it is a major factor in downfall since it is not forced on every server, there are many that don't run it. If that setup was popular people would be playing there and that does not seem to be ...

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
While I agree with you that Geno is a silly flag and should be removed from the default game (it can be implemented as a plug-in for those that want it), your version of history is a bit wrong. Geno was written by Chris, before the game went open source. It's one of the very old flags that was added...

You uploaded the wings file not the map file. And the license is very important, if you aren't able to use an approved license then the we will have to remove your post

Technically what you have is an invitational, not an open tournament, and that is probably what is confusing some people.

Re: Ubuntu: service vs command line - where is CONF?
You may want to ask the Ubuntu Games community as I believe they added that to the Ubuntu package. The BZFS server gets the config file location from the command line option -conf and then the path to the config file.
