Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
So I made some changes including relocating the motion box. I'd appreciate if you would test it and tell me if it's playable like that. I have not yet pushed a release, waiting for this change to be tested, but the code can be updated using a script. I outlined the update process in an earlier post....

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
No, conventional FPS controls wouldn't do because motion depends on the absolute position of the mouse cursor. I personally think this is one of the best aspects of BZFlag controls, so I'm replicating it.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
For instance, the movement of the UI and crosshair, which both BZ and quite a few FPS players will probably tend to find odd. For BZ players, the movement will be considered "odd" due to moving independently of the crosshair/target sight. The field of view in a great deal of FPS games is ...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Thanks for providing that info.
From what I could find, your graphics card can support OpenGL up to version 1.3, so the game may not run on it.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
trpted, what graphics card do you have installed on your computer?
It appears that your card or the installed drivers do not support OpenGL 2
Try this command as root to find the card model:
lspci | grep -i --color 'vga\|3d\|2d'

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Although the game concept is alright/okay, the handling/interface of it at this point in time is not intuitive. Is it the game menu, the ui, the controls or something else that you find not intuitive ? There seems to be an uncertain game design, as in much of the "apparent" effort going t...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Most games just hash out the files and replace the ones that have changed. You just need a manifest and a web server. Then I don't see the advantage over using rsync. Seems like more work and using a tool not designed for the task. Also for something that says it's open source... where is the sourc...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Umm why the heck does a video game need rsync? Just for updates? That seems like a huge security hole. I needed a method to quickly update game files without resorting to download the game every time something changes. rsync works very well for this. I couldn't find examples of how other games do i...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Hello again! Here we go with a first public release! That's not to say game is ready for public consumption, it's far from that. I'm releasing the game in the hope of receiving feedback from wider audience on the core game concept. My immediate plan is to gather feedback and push for making a full m...

The game received some play testing the last few weeks, I'm hoping it will be ready for release soon.

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Thanks! I'm just keeping it simple. Perhaps when the game gets some polish I'll start thinking about more exposure.Lancer_MiG21 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:08 am Oh, that's quite awesome, I'll make sure to give it a try! Do you think you could put the video on youtube, or would you rather keep it "semi-confidential" so far?

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Small update. I have recently redone the code for bots to be more adaptable. It is still far from finished, but the new code should be much more flexible. Here is a short video demonstrating playing vs bots. http://45.32.180.51/what/#/1/7 http://45.32.180.51/assets/2019-09-26%2017-44-57.m4v Both lin...

Re: Thoughts on competitive/league play
Sorry for going off topic but, something i have been contemplating for some time is a way for players to signal their willingness to play, without needing to run the game, and avoiding manually checking strayers.. discord solves this problem partially, but not everyone is on it. Back to the topic, i...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
Making a website for the game is taking longer than I would have liked, so I will publish what I came up with so I can turn back to actually making that game :-p
I want to add a few videos on that site shortly, and give it a proper domain:

I'm currently adding features which are not ready to be tested yet, I hope to have the game in a good enough shape to rele...

Re: Sniping League
I think Space Invaders map by ahs would be a good candidate for addition to the league. I like the way superflags are used in this particular map, as they serve tactical purpose, and encourages team cooperation (unlike other maps which play mostly like FFA). It might be worth a try in a full match.

I normally only play the non-superflags maps, but I think this one is pretty cool.

I uploaded a short video here , since making a video is much simpler than taking a scr...

#1 Great that you offer Windows and Mac, but what about Unix/Linux? #2 If the source code is how one gets to work on Unix/Linux, then: a) Is it only for 64bit or also for 32bit? b) What does one need to do to create from source code? Thank you There is an option to export a Linux binary but I'm onl...

Re: BZFlag inspired game under development
I noticed there's no Godot project file in your sources. Why is that? The project file for Godot 2 is called engine.cfg. It changed in the new version but I have not updated to that yet. Currently I'm just experimenting with some ideas I would like to test, so updating to the latest version is not ...
