Re: Start BZFS (new tool)

Yeah, it works. It doesn't look native (or good for that matter), but at least it runs.

Re: Start BZFS (new tool)

Yeah, Fedora 10 is newest (until the end of may, then 11 will be). I think Fedora 8 has 0.13.x . I'll try it on Fedora 10 now.

Re: Start BZFS (new tool)

The latest version doesn't work for me. I'm using Fedora 8 on an i686. The error message is: Unhandled Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for System.Windows.Forms.XplatUI ---> System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by t...

Re: Who Have The Best Avatar ?

I like Zaphod's, but one suggestion. It looks like just before the tank drives through the camera, the ground starts to sink a little. I'm not sure if that's just a trick of the eye, but it looks just a bit odd to me.

Re: Start BZFS (new tool)

Why don't you just use Python and the wxPython GUI toolkit? That would look native on Linux, Mac, and Windoze. Or if you insist on not using Python for fastness reasons, you could use C++ and wxWidgets for the same effect.

Re: How to add a Admin tab?

That looks like it could be a pretty cool feature! It could be useful to make the "friend" tab not appear until someone sends you about 5 messages (exact number could be configurable). Then it makes a new tab for that player. That would be a lot more complicated, though.

Re: Water Plugin?

I know! Create a plugin to change the _shockInRadius and _shockOutRadius variables after the shockwave has fired. Then the next one looks like a continuation of the first, and players joining after the first SW is fired will still see it.

Re: flags and tactical capabilities

I think bad flags are pretty cool. Sometimes they can even work to your advantage. Obesity can be good on jumping skills maps, and Wide Angle is one of my personal favorite flags, next maybe only to Stealth. They help keep things even, if a map has bad and good flags, there's always that slight risk...

Re: pass team-flag to player

I believe that using theif to steal an opposing team's flag and get it to a better location (or cap it sooner) is always a good thing IMHO.

Re: Voting

My god! Anyone who is lame enough to steal the callsigns of good players should rot in hell for all eternity! If someone did that with MY callsign, I'd take personal responsibility to get him forever banned from playing this game EVER AGAIN IN HIS LIFE!

Okay, I'll try downloading wings again. My problem might have been that I installed wings as root, but ran it as a normal user to install the plugin.

I still can't export anything as bzw with this. I haven't a clue why it doesn't work.

Re: Trench Warfare by justice

This is my favorite map (well, it is for now anyway)! I agree with BzStealth that you should make the ground in the middle invisible on radar. That is a trivial task, all you have to do is add this line to the texture you used for that box:

Code: Select all

noradar
and it will be invisible on radar.

Yeah, I was kinda torn between having the team(s) in the physics driver or in the reference. I really hadn't even decided when I made this post!

Re: Voting

Well then, it could have something like this. The first time BZFlag is started, it pops up with a little dialog saying to go to a certain website for all sorts of help stuff. That could be a pretty simple way to do it.

Re: Local Host Admin

If you want to be an admin on a local test server, just add this command-line option when you run the server:

Code: Select all

-password hi
Then when you connect to the server, say this:

Code: Select all

/password hi
Then you will be an admin.

Many suggestions

I have many ideas for BZFlag that are for different aspects of the game. Many of them are unrelated, but I'll post them all here (or else I'll probably forget some of them) 1. Solid Objects/Mesh Faces "Solid objects" is a rather simple idea. It makes the object impassable by SB, OO, and PZ...

That sounds VERY hard to implement to me. Maybe someone could make it a whole new game, it sounds a bit too complicated for BZFlag.

If I figure out how to compile it to a non-root directory (like /home/<username>/bz_3_dev/) then I would play with you tony.

Positive Gravity: That's pretty good, I usually get a score of 0 before I die on missile wars. Why don't you try setting your graphics mode to medium or high?
