Re: v2.4.22-2 hangs at Start Screen

Fedora has SDL2 as a dependency for BZFlag, no? Fedora 35 originally shipped with SDL2 2.0.16, but an update brought it up to 2.0.20.

Re: v2.4.22-2 hangs at Start Screen

So I've narrowed it down to SDL 2.0.20. When I build against an older version, it works fine. When I use 2.0.20, it seems there's problems with events. So the game itself isn't locked up, but input events (and possibly events out to the desktop environment or window manager) are not happening. I was...

Re: v2.4.22-2 hangs at Start Screen

I'll try to replicate it. I'll have to pull a nVidia card out of one of my WIndows PCs since all my other nVidia cards won't be supported by current drivers.

Re: How can I make BXFlag more Violent?

For ultra-violence mode: 1. Mix the explosion sound with this: https://freesound.org/people/Gemesil/sounds/523216/ 2. Fill the tanks with raspberry jam. 3. Leave behind gravestones or crosses at death locations. For non-violent mode: Just run the server with -ms 0 to disable shooting and make sure t...

Re: Server List Communication Issues - September 30, 2021

I have updated the certificate generation on the main server and the download server. So older systems should be working now, as long as they have the ISRG Root X1 certificate installed.

Re: Server List Communication Issues - September 30, 2021

I'll be making some changes to the certificate generation that will help with older OSX versions and other systems with older versions of OpenSSL. So there may be some outages as I work on this. I believe systems will still need to have the ISRG Root X1 root certificate in order to validate the cert...

Server List Communication Issues - September 30, 2021

We use Let's Encrypt TLS certificates for communication with the server list. On September 30, 2021, an old root certificate for the Let's Encrypt certificates expired. So some old operating systems or systems without updates installed may be unable to communicate with the server list. Here's Let's ...

Re: How does one "escape" a game window in Linux?

If you change the mouse confinement mode from "Window" to "Mouse Box", it should let you Alt-Tab. Otherwise, I'd avoid using the version packaged with Ubuntu as Debian does silly stuff with their packaging, such as running a game server automatically. They're also still using SDL...

Re: Launch and cursor issues

Yes, I think XWayland or Wayland doesn't allow us to move the mouse cursor, so I also think that centering the mouse after respawning doesn't work. Going forward, the way to fix that will be to use relative mouse movement and drawing a fake cursor or indicator ourselves.

Re: Help With Finding Source of Jitter?

Sure, running BitTorrent or other downloads could impact BZFlag. But then the question should really be "Are you running downloads on your computer/network?" instead of "Is UPnP enabled?", since the latter isn't the cause of the network issues.

Re: Help With Finding Source of Jitter?

UPnP allows software running on computers to manage some aspects of the network's router, such as forwarding ports. UPnP is irrelevant with the exception of a non-default build of the game server that, as far as I know, is only built that way on Gentoo. And even then it's only to automatically forwa...

Re: HDPI Monitor with scaling

Note that the second screenshot isn't public. However, I did see that same issue when I used resolution scaling in XFCE. Though I had set mine to 2x, which caused BZ to only show up in the bottom left quadrant of the screen. Using window scaling (in the Appearance settings) worked correctly with BZF...

Re: User is registered but doesn't show as registered. also cant talk

Your name here doesn't match your in-game name. Here you have hypens, but in-game you're using spaces. You can rename your account by clicking on your name in the top right here and clicking on User Control Panel. Once there, go to Profile and then Edit Account Settings. Edit the username, and then ...

Things to try: Run plugged in to AC power (not just battery) (Reason: Some systems run the WiFi in more of a power-save mode when on battery) Try enabling or disabling the FPS Limit in the game. Move closer to your WiFi access point Try changing the 2.4GHz WiFi channel on your router (1, 6, or 11) T...

Re: Our IRC chat channels have moved from Freenode to Libera.Chat

Note that the old freenode servers have been shut down, with the exception of at least one. However, the normal services (nickserv, chanserv, etc) are no longer running, and the server is misconfigured to allow rogue users to take their place. So someone is using the nickserv name with the intent of...

Re: Launch and cursor issues

If you run Gnome on Xorg instead of Wayland the cursor shows up. Not ideal, but it's at least a workaround for now. From the computer's login screen, click on your user name, and then in the bottom right click on the gear and pick Gnome on Xorg. I didn't see the launch problem here. I'm not sure whi...
