Re: So You Think You Can Dodge
My reflexes aren't fast enough, and I don't have the precision control necessary to dodge that well. Thus, my call sign.

Re: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one
To paraphrase what psycho said, the current BZFlag situation is the result of independent personal choices made by many individual people. The only meaningful restrictions on BZFlag developers are those that they have created in their own minds. Misquoting President Kennedy: ask not what BZFlag can ...

Re: Riker’s Winter Cup 2014 North America vs Europe/Asia????
Any player who is in the geographic regions of North America and Europe is eligible to participate in the Riker Cup. When you say "geographic regions" are you referring to physical geography or cultural geography? I am not making up that distinction, and this is a nice example of how diff...

Re: Riker’s Winter Cup 2014 North America vs Europe/Asia????
there is not a clear/publicized documentation that shows everything about the Rikers. Over the years the GU admins have consistently refused to create detailed written rules covering every possible situation, despite repeated requests for such from a few players. I do not expect any change in that ...

Re: A new year, a new beginning.
Changing the scoring system to give less weight to results as they get older would give emphasis to current players without having to do an occasional reset. Another approach is "seasons" as used in the Ducati league, where a reset is done on a regular schedule with recognition for the top...

Re: On Master-Ban-List?!
swissboy is someone else who uses the same ISP as you. He has used so many different IP addresses that it was necessary to block many thousands just to keep him out. Apologies for the inconvenience to you, but he is so obnoxious that it is worth it.

Re: On Master-Ban-List?!
swissboy is deservedly banned on many individual servers, but is not in the master ban list. The quickest way to get playing is to send a private message here on BZBB to the relevant server owner and politely ask to be added to their whitelist group.

Re: Suggestion To Limit Team Creation :: Please Read
Does it matter which team you are on? If the answer is "yes" then we will continue to allow anyone to create and build the team they want. If the answer is "no" then you should be content to play fun matches, where official team membership is irrelevant, when there are no opponen...

Re: Flag pass on ducati
Server code changes would be required to add features to the randomly generated maps used in the Ducati league. Anything is possible, but first we have to decide exactly what is wanted. Flag passing is done by creating an "unsafe" location on the map (easy to do). If a flag is dropped ther...

Re: how to get started
Most of the information you need is in the BZFlag wiki, including an overview of the BZFlag source code and basic instructions for compiling the software. The code isn't always easy to follow, unfortunately. The list of outstanding bugs is a good place to find something to work on.

Re: Compiling error
The build system is designed to work when running as a normal user, so don't use root privileges when building BZFlag. After successfully building it a sudo make install command is usually appropriate to make bzflag run correctly from any current working directory. If you have downloaded and unpacke...

It was the 1980s, but if you remember the '70s you can be forgiven for confusing them. Battlezone [wikipedia] was the only arcade game I ever really enjoyed playing, which probably explains my interest in BZFlag.

Re: A new matching variant for GU league
Would it be enough to simply allow official reporting of fun matches? Without making any changes to the league website code we could add a red team and a purple team and record fun match results using those teams. This would increase league activity as measured by the number of reported matches. Pla...

I just returned from a 2-week vacation in the country of Belize, whose 2-letter ISO country code is BZ . I didn't see any military vehicles with treads and turrets, but I took pictures of some of the tanks I did see: bz_tanks.jpg Rain is the only natural source of fresh water on the small islands of...

Re: how can I vanish a teleporter?
Can the tank warp from a teleporter to the place which there is not another teleporter? If you make the destination teleporter link its two sides to each other, then tanks and shots will pass right through it as though it weren't there. It will still be visible, of course, but that is about as clos...

Re: BZFlag application not showing up
The BZFlag configure step will choose to not compile the bzflag program if it fails to detect certain libraries and header files. Most likely, you installed the missing requirements between the time it failed and the time it succeeded.

Both the client and server represent distances with single-precision floating point numbers that have about 6 decimal digits of precision. It doesn't really matter whether "round" numbers are used for map positions unless two objects are supposed to be very close but not touching.

Re: 2.0.16 replays
I still have the 2.0.x league replay files on BRL, but I don't know about other servers. If you are looking for a specific match then ask about it and the relevant server owner may be able to put up a 2.0.16 replay server with it.
