Thanks for the help, guys. DW, the tunnel is exactly 6 units high. You came awfully close... I figure you must be a pro at this. :D

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to make the ceiling higher. Everyone be sure to come by and play sometime! gnurdux.homelinux.net:5170

Where to find a good host?

Hi all, I'm curious as how server owners find a good place to host their bzflag servers. Naturally, I'm sure that some already have high-speed always-on connections worthy of hosting a server on, but I'm sure that the vast majority of us don't. Do you guys rent shared space? Find a business/school/p...

Nope, didn't work. I didn't see any noticeable difference at all with the a change to the _flagHeight variable (although I suppose there must be something). Any other ideas?

Make sure you typed in your callsign and password correctly in the "Join Game" screen. Try erasing them and typing them in again.

Flags in constricted area

The screenshot below is a tunnel in one of my maps: http://my.bzflag.org/bb/files/tunnelwithflag_337.jpg There is a ground plane a few units up from the top of the tunnel. Whenever I drop a flag inside the tunnel, the flag flies up through the roof of the tunnel and comes to rest on the ground plane...

What mac do you have? On some of the older models you have to start BZFlag in windowed mode (some problem with opening an OpenGL context, I think). Some of those machines can have pretty old video cards.

Seems that this would render your tank pretty much useless That was the point of including the exception of 'kill to drop bad flag only' servers, on most though it would just present an annoying challenge. That's true. I just don't know if the devs would go for a flag that can be configured to make...

Heck no. That would ruin the gameplay on servers like Hide 'n Seek Hills, Mofo, Twin Peaks and others.
Or they could have Wings and Gyro and Thrusters... and leave it up to the map makers/server owners.

Thinking of all teh 40 flags that exist there is no 'gun jam' (ie can't shoot while I have this flag) Obviously this would screw any server running drop bad flag on kill (only), but it is an obvious flag, any reason why it isn't there? Seems that this would render your tank pretty much useless (exc...

I was there with him when it happened, and I think I've seen it elsewhere too. I really don't have any idea what the problem is, but I think it has been encountered before.

You probably don't need to compile BZFlag from source. The server, client, and text client binaries are all included inside the application that you can download off of sourceforge. Just click on the application ("BZFlag.app", most likely), click "Show package contents", and navi...

yes, texcoords have everything to do with it. they say how the texture is applied to the mesh. there is no "default" mapping. Okay, thanks for the info. I guess I'll just need to experiment. ;) Can anyone give me just a simple example of a mesh that uses texcoords? I really have no idea e...

Hmmm, from what I can make of the translation... good point. I've had someone sneak a peek into my config file before... fortunately I had disabled the -password option by putting a "#" in front of it. For private servers, the passwords in the -passdb file are encrypted somehow... maybe pr...

Some good thoughts, there. Score certainly isn't the most important thing in every situation. Still, a plugin like this might have its uses. I guess I'll have to think about it a little more.

Okay, thanks for the tips. I downloaded Wings3D, and will have a look at it shortly. However, I'm still interested in leaning a little more about the texturing options for bzflag meshes, just for the sake of understanding them so I can tweak them if I need to. Do texcoords and normals have anything ...

Need some help on texturing

I'm building a map with tunnels, and I created a "fake" ground with the std_ground texture. This new ground is effectively a flat plane that has holes in it. I used a mesh with the following code: # Fake ground level mesh matref grass color 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 # Four corners vertex 300 300 25 ...

KeepScore plugin

I have an idea for a new plugin. It would actually be quite simple. It seems that it must be frustrating for a really skilled player to get up to a score of 100+, then have his computer freeze, or get kicked for lag, etc. Also, in certain other game situations, it would be cool if you could keep you...

Although it is possible for a user not to see that a poll is in progress, it is very unlikely. There are four messages sent that indicate that a poll is in progress (poll requested, 45 secs left, 30 secs left, and 15 secs left). An easier way to vote might be a welcome addition, though. I don't know...

Perhaps a player's TK number is considered his score on this map. ;)
