Support for Mac OS X and other operating system plugins

The infrastructure is now in finally in place for fully cross-platform plug-in compilations (via libtool). This includes support for Mac OS X. I initially only added a couple of the existing plugins to the new build but it's only a matter of simple Makefile conversion to make get of them all working...

BZFlag casual get together on 30 July 2005

There is going to be a small informal get-together of some of the BZFlag developers, players, and admins in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. on 30 July. Several of the BZFlag developers, regular players, server admins and friends will be getting together at Gladstones (a restaurant) in City Walk (Uni...

filter's origins

Each server specifies their own filter list and they can customize it as much or as little as they like. Whether not a given server filters or should filter a given word/phrase is different for every server -- I know that many customize their list. That said, BZFlag provides a good starting point fi...

language filtering

For what it's worth, the language filter was never meant to be an end-all solution to prevent seeing any sort of profanity in the game chat for servers that which to run a profanity-less server. It was 1) meant as a robust upgrade from the previous simple exact-match word filtering and 2) intended t...

Heh, being an OS 9 updater has nothing to do with putting apps on your desktop.. Perhaps does go to show that you're not used to multiuser systems, though. "Shouldn't" matter really, but it was curious. That was put together a while ago so I'd have to check the binary itself to be sure, bu...

You should not have needed to install libcurl (or any library for that matter). Out of curiosity, is there a reason why you are running a copy sitting on your desktop instead of dragging the icon to your applications folder like the window suggested? While it "shouldn't matter" where the b...

Hmmm

Hm, that's rather odd. The binary was built on 10.2, and I tested it with a couple other 10.2 users to be sure when it was released. I can't imagine what might have caused the undefined wide character symbols that it's apparently complaining about on this system. As for a 10.2 "installer script...

where's the beef?

You didn't actually post the error, you posted the follow-up messages that follow the actual error. Try pasting a little bit more information (look for the first occurance of "failed" or "error" or "duplicate" etc and try to include the last compile line).

Sounds like it was quite a misunderstanding. The ban has been removed already. Helps to not leave an identified autopilot player designated as an administrator running on a busy server.. Roger must be getting pretty good.. :) We'll look into making the documentation more clear on what's not allowed.

reason for the ban

You were banned due to what was determined to be list server abuse. A server that listed you as the operator was running with an profane public list server message. You were approached several times on your server by myself and others in attempts to contact you to resolve the matter. Your failure to...

I really like the gun (is that a paintball gun?? :) ) pointing AT the person in the chair. I could use the plow to dig my cars out of the snow. I think the Death Star takes the cake, though.. puts it all to scale.

Looks like Gerbil needs a better hosting provider with less restrictions.. ;) I've copied the images to another location so that it can be seen. Nice chair, Gerbil! .. You could probably get a permit for it in the U.S. .. you can get a permit for just about anything with enough money.

Re: Historical question

During the mid-90's, I visited a friend at Columbia (actually Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) who had a few SGIs, and I vaguely remember a Battlezone-like game. As I recall it was played on a tan square, not too big, with something like dark blue pyramids. Since I'd done a port of Battlezone to t...

agility vs high speed

Consequencially, I still like high speed better. btw, what's the difference between high speed and agility? It seems agility is just high speed but with even speeds forwards and backwards... High speed is just a velocity increase so that the tank drives 1.5 times faster. Agility gives you an even h...

BZFlag 1.10.8 is incompatible with OS X 10.2. You'll need to use version 1.10.6 which is feature-wise identical in every regard to 1.10.8. That said, BZFlag 2.0.0 is just released (and will work on 10.2).

Lunarian Moogle, sounds and looks like you ran out of memory. It usually would have just left you with a black screen, but I suppose we're slowly improving. So, dropping the resolution is probably what you'll need to do for at least now.
