One more thing
There's also a version of Stonehenge in the map, as true as I could reasonably make it to the current condition of the site.

Unit Blocks map
Because BZFlag reminds me a little of toy tanks and toy blocks, I thought I'd do a map with components similar to unit blocks (lengths, widths, heights all multiples of a given unit). This does give the map a certain pleasing predictability, although I didn't adhere to this rule completely. I've als...

Sounds like fun
I'd like to play, on the Purple team of course.
I'd appreciate it if you send a reminder; I'll put it on my electronic calendar, but I use Eastern Standard Time, and I don't recall offhand when we go off Daylight Savings Time.

sensical
"Sensical" is a great word, referring to a style of theatre production. You've heard of a "musical"; well, in a "sensical" the theatre sends attractive young actors and actresses into the audience to give massages, release aromatic vapors, and generally interact with th...

Hunter mode idea
There are some times when I'm playing on a map and, due to play events, I really just focus on killing one player. It could be his comments, behavior, or just the fact that he matches my skill level (such as it is) and is a good adversary. The problem is that there is no way to say "I just want...

HugeMap - the Great Plains
While this map is extremely large, it is also very sparse, with blocks clustered in towns (internally named Dodge, Carson City, etc.). Each town has a teleporter in the central square, which will take you to the next town - there are 6 altogether. (You can drive between them, but it will take quite ...

Tower fighting Map - an experiment with height
(I was going to call this Two Towers, but I think I've seen another map around with that name). I wanted to see what it would be like to use a lot of the third dimension in fighting. The map consists primarily of two towers, and fighting I hope will be mainly between these towers. Each towers has a ...

OK, so only I hear it, but to me this is a bug. The only explanation that I could think of is that it represents the sound of some mechanism internal to my tank, and is so attentuated by the tank hull that it's not worth trying to propagate it to nearby players. But barring that, it's a clue to what...

I don't see what this has to do with using an accuracy metric as an alternative score.elmer fudd wrote:loser: that would use at most 1 kb
so with 60GB standard(and goes higher) 1KB is < 1% of total disk space

Statistics are a good idea, but I was thinking of this as more of an alternative score, when conventional scoring just doesn't seem as meaningful. You could even imagine two score lists, one for point value as is currently done, and one for lethality, maybe letting the user choose in which mode he w...

Jump sound bug (or is it?)
When I jump I hear a sound (kind of a weird "boing"). However, if I'm next to someone when they jump, I don't hear anything. This seems like a bug; and it'd be really useful when someone with Stealth jumps up to shoot you to be able to hear them coming. On the other hand, maybe this was in...

Scoring option
I'd like the client to keep a personal score for me, that being the percent of my shots which result in kills. I don't think this needs to be published (seen by other players), but it could be I suppose - mainly I'd like to try to optimize it as a personal challenge. Ideally it might show the number...

It plays well too
I've seen this hosted recently, and I enjoy playing on it a bit, probably a quite a bit more than the original madcity. I hope it gets "discovered" and is populated on a regular basis.

Buying hosting service
Has anyone any info on the (monthly, say) cost of a server which can run BZFlag? By this I mean an ISP which would provide the hardware and decent connectivity, but allow root level access to the machine to set things up, etc. (I may have other uses in parallel with BZFlag, but I'm curious what it m...

I stumbled on this when it was hosted somewhere, and I thought it was really excellent - an interesting idea, very well done.
What made you think of it? Have you spent any time at sea?

Dutchrai pages found.
I thought that the guide(s) to playing BZFlag by Dutchrai were really helpful - unfortunately, they're no longer at their original site (e.g. http://www.shellshock.dutchrai.com/guides-basics.htm). However, web.archive.org does have old web content, and a large (and useful) percentage of the content ...

Minas Tirith map
This map (attached) has the 7-level city of Minas Tirith in one corner, and Minas Ithil (Morgul) in the other, with the Anduin flowing diagonally between them (these are fairly flat pyramids, with no drivethrough, so if you jump into the river you may well be stuck). In the center is the little town...

Stealth flag shadows
Sure, shadows should be there - the tanks are visible out the window, just not on radar.

Minor (very minor?) aesthetic bug
in 1.10.4, my tank shadow shows a flag on top, even if I don't have a flag.
This is probably rarely an issue, but I do use shadows sometimes to spot ST tanks approaching, so it'd be nice if the shadows were accurate.

Problem (sort of) resolved.
Thanks to you all for your comments; I did grab different drivers and tried a variety of them, but it seems that the tool for tweaking nVidia drivers on the web site suggested by SGI (http://www.guru3d.com/) let me get things right (almost right with the latest driver from nVidia) - the display is a...

I've zipped up a bitmap of the screenshot, which I'll try to attach (the original was sufficiently large to cause the posting of this reply to fail). My drivers are 5.3.0.3, dated 11/17/03.
No, the attachment is too big. I'll stick it at

New NVIDIA drivers seem to cause font problems
I have two monitors/video cards, the main one is NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200, the second one is NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. Windows Update (snarl) told me there were new drivers available; I installed them, and when I start BZFlag I don't see any of the main menu items, just blocks where the characters shoul...

Madcity, mirror image
I've always liked Madcity (the modified one, still pretty old), but I've sort of played it too much. So I made a version that's exactly like the usual one, but a mirror image. It has the same advantages/disadvantages of course, but seems eerily different, enough to be interesting if you know the ori...
